I have worked with this material a bit. It was a market experiment done by a company who makes Dymond Wood, which is the multi-color resin impregnated wood were all familiar with. It's basically the same product but cut on the end grain. If I remember right they needed a few big orders from regular customers to make it happen and when it fell through they cut it up and sent it out in small pieces, but that's all that was ever made. It's a durable product and not only impressive to see it's really unique being so limited. I bought mine from Koval knives back before Mr Koval passed and got the story from him, but what I had was identical to this.
