Before we even get started: PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT ON PRICING, AVAILABILTY, or anything else that may cause lockdown of this thread. Let's please not drift too far from topic. Thanks in advance.

Now, excluding customs, fixed and such let's play a hypothetical. If it was possible to obtain standard offerings of XMs at will, how many do you believe you may acquire?
Personally, 1 of each size XM in both Spanto and Slicer would cover my needs/wants very well. So, I guess my answer would be 6 core pieces +.
What about the rest of you?

That seems to be about right for me, of course I would want lots of different scales to match my outfit each day :D.

You just touched on why I swap scales and standoffs, lanyards, etc. While I patiently await the opportunity for additional XMs, I play with refreshing my EDC (etc.) with various color parts, sometimes even able to swap SS and G10 for Ti. Pretty cool this is even an option. Disassembly is discouraged by many makers.

I can't see who is currently in the thread but N2K, if you are there. I'd probablt say 7.
One each like you said then after I determine my actual favorite I would duplicate that one as my hard use EDC.
That's in a perfect world of course, in a really perfect world I'd put the number closer to 117 :)

Why stop at 117? Why not go for 365? Now that would be both awesome and confusing.
Seems logical with 365 to carry a different one each day. Problem is they are so hard to put down and I often carry 2 at a time. Uh, oh. Perhaps it's good I only have a single digit collection. Because I would need cargo pockets, a pack (or 2) and a Batman style utility belt if I owned as many as mentioned.

I am starting to see a trend here. A couple keepers and a duplicate user or two. Sounds like reality more than hypothetical. I like it.

Actually it's At Least Twelve(12)

XM18 3",3.5" and XM24 ALL in both Spanto/Slicer AND Flipper/Non-Flipper

Damn...... I gots to go talk to "Miss Piggy" (where I keep my money):)

I'm set with the 3 I have.

I love the spanto flipper XM18 3.5, stonewash/stonewash.........So I bought 3 of them. Oh yeah, all three are in 20CV as well. My favorite steel.

I am pretty much set unless I get the chance to get a wharnie custom. :D

Thanks for the math lesson, rubi.
But in my world (so far) it's flipper only. Every knife I pick up without a flipper, well, feels like something's missing. Since this is a question as to how many an individual would own, there is no one answer better than any other. So, sorry, my friend…no prizes to be had.:)

Hey, I read the published rules to the question and indicated "I Accept" on the disclaimer, I want my FREE gallon of Bug-B-Gone and the $1 mail-in-rebate.
Please.

You got it rubi. Please send me a self addressed, stamped envelope to receive your mail in rebate. I will then make sure to mail it in a sealed envelope to an undisclosed location. If the recipient decides to open the package and place into the mail, you may see the rebate form in a little as 2 weeks. ;)

Not quite there yet, you would also need all the finishes: beadblast, stonewash and sandblast..and that's just the frame lock finish.

I just want flipper for spanto and non-flipper for slicer.....:D

Anyway next up for me is a 3" spanto and slicer, again a spanto with flipper and a slicer non-flipper, that should keep me happy till about June until a slicer non-flipper XM-24 comes out..

All combo's would be quite a few to collect...especially if you also start with bead blasted and "working finish" blade finishes and different frame combo's...:nightmare:

I hear all of you loud and clear on the flip/non and the finish options. My original post says 6 core +. The + was meant to imply additional pieces of whatever configuration. For me the 6 core are all flippers and all tumbled finish. They would all be users. The + would cover all other XM models that caught my attention because I know I would continue to buy more. Just as I do in real life.

For me it's just 4 which I plan to have by summers end.
3" spanto non-flipper
3.5" slicer flipper
4" spanto non-flipper
4" slicer flipper
One down and three to go!
