Ok fellas kinda curious about something. Since I have been on this forum I have noticed a lot of you all like the tweener's I understand that Part minus BiggHoss and his 9's, but in all seriousness I see what seems like alot more go for the 16 over the 15 and very few mention the 17. Ok here is my thinking.. I currently have a 2 which is being worked on and the 11 which I am in love with.. Both are a drop point style knife. I am leaning more toward the 15 as my next BK for the simple reason it seams like a good general all around working knife working in the kitchen cutting meat and veggies and tearing up stuff outside and the trialing point is so inviting... I feel that the 17 would be more useful as a combat type of knife. Do the points make a difference in the usage? The specs seem about the same except that the 15 is roughly 1 inch longer. So please enlighten me and school this noobie. Thanks for reading this and your imput's

I like drop points and got a good deal on the 16. Some people really like clip points; I've seen them recommend the 17. I wouldn't kick it out for eatin' crackers.

I think for bushcrafting, splitting, and general hard use a drop point is viewed as tougher. If you do a lot of piercing/poking you'll probably like the 17 better.

The trailing point seems popular for the grill/camp kitchen set. It took me a while to warm up to it, but now I sorta want one. (Okay, two.)
But I can't give direct usage comparisons, since I haven't used a 15 or 17. Yet.

I think the 15 is a bit thick as a regular kitchen knife, but for a camp kitchen: hells yeah.
Choose the 17 over the 16 if you want a piercing saber grind instead of a FFG.

It's in there somewhere...

Yeah the early 16's were sabre the rest are ffg you need both plus the 15, and 17

Yeah I want a sabre 16 bad, don't get me wrong... I love the ffg but that sabre, sure does got some class.

I have 2 of the sabres, what I don't have is the sterile sabre. Damn you Derik and Cbear and whoever else has them.

Don't underestimate the 17. It's as good a bushcrafter as you can get. That point is handy as hell and it's a tough, strong knife.

Sterile? Please explain.

Most of the sabre 16's were bought by SMKW and have a bunch of laser etching all over them. Those are the First Production Run or FPR and say it all over the blade. SMKW may still have the FPR 16's in stock. However a few lucky folks managed to acquire sabre BK16's that were unmolested by SMKW that is what I would really like to have :D of course I have stripped the FPR and it makes a fine user.

I've owned and used all three. Of them all, I no longer own the 17, but not because its a bad knife, but simple because its kinda a niche blade for my uses. My 16 done everything I needed four my style and type ussage. Initially I had a hard time warming up to the 15, I saw no real use for it other than as a kitchen or camp cooking knife. I saw some potential as a fighting knife, but that isn't really my thing. The thing that got me to try the 15 as my every day general use knife, was the fact that most say it doesn't work well in that role. I'm kinda hard headed, and when someone says something won't work, I set out top price them wrong. After just a few outings with it I came to the realization that the 15 fits me perfectly. Its the same 1095 a the rest of the blades we love, so it sharpens easily, it holds an edge great, it slices nicely, carves great, throws sparks good, I've battoned a truck load with it, and just got done cleaning 14 nice bluegill. Its a great little blade, and it deserves a chance to prove itself in other scenarios besides the kitchen.
Thats my opinion, fwiw.
