Curious 15, 16, 17

Ok, so the differences... Here we go!

First we have the BK-17, it is a "Buck style" clip point, good for woodwork and getting into nuts, also good for penetration... I've been told.
Next we have the BK9-17. This was a FFG 16 that K9-Handler modified to be a clip point. It was a passaround that when I got it, I just asked how much to not have to pass it on :D
Next is the Sterile Saber-16. I believe the Mods have one, E has one, Derek, Jack and I have them... Other than that, I don't think anyone does. The 16 is good for bushcraft stuff. And honestly the FFG is better at it, but I and I believe D has made mention too, would put more trust in the Saber than the FFG.
Then is the 15. It's just smexy!

I have a 16 (well, it was for the wife, but my daughter claimed it after Becker West. I don't use it much at all). But my daughter loves it!!! She isn't all tech savy with the blade shapes and grind, and really could care less. She just thinks, "Dad, this knife is soo cool!!! It's mine now!!!"

I've been oogling the 15 for some time now, but its going to be....a long time.....before I can get one.

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the tweeners, but (without claiming any kind of knife masterness) imo you'd be be wise to choose the 15 (get the rest later) judging by the knives you allready own.
You have a 2, and that takes care of your "general purpose do anything to it without being able to kill it because it's a brick of a knife" needs.
The 11 is just the right size for those chores where the 2 is just too huge. (The 2 will probably perform adequatly, but the 11 will do it better)

The 15 on the other hand is just such an amazing slicer. It cut close to 2 inch deep cuts in raw chicken filets with allmost no preasure at all. It has LOTS of belly so you get long swipes with the blade (picture slicing with a broadsword vs a katana).
Since you mentioned using it as a combat blade, i'll say this would be my knife of choice between the tweeners, but then again my knife fighting training is all based on filipino martial arts, so theres a lot of slashing going on. (Think of what this knife did to the chicken filets, and imagine what it would do to "another type of meat with hard decicive slashes) Thrusting won't be a problem either as long as you hold it correctly.
And, it will probably stand up to a good beating with general camp chores aswell, if you HAVE TO do it. I mean, come on.... Its a Becker ;)

Note that this is MY personal opinion from an uneducated point of view. Wouldn't want to awaken the rage of the drop point crew :P

It seems that it doesn't really matter which tweener your gonna buy first, because the others are going to eventually follow. I myself am leaning towards my first of the three being the 16 with the 15 to follow but I might get the 10 first and a five is going to have to be bought also.
Cbear I'm impressed with "smexy". It's a good word to add to a knifes description.

Don't forget a BK9. You can't not have a 9.

I love when you make an order around 2 am and buy 1030 u have a click in ship in your inbox!! GO TOMARS lol

Of course a smexy 9 will be added as well. I hope your ok with me using your word Cbear, I'm trying to think of other avenues to use it. My wife thought smelly and sexy shouldn't go together.

Use it in good health my friend!

Although to be fair it was originally contrived by combining smart and sexy.

I've owned a 17 for a while and just got a 15 a couple days ago. I have to say the 15 is quickly becoming my favorite knife. It feels great in the hand, its very agile, it has a good length but not too long, and my favorite part is the choil it feels really nice to choke up on it. just my 2cents!

Not to change the subject but have u all every actually paid attention to the 3 lol from a FF/Medic stand point I wonder how long it would take to extricate someone from a car with that thing lol I can see punching thew a windshield with that thing and using the serrations to rip/cut the glass out then whacking the crap out of A&B posts then cutting 2 pivot points at C post and having a new convertible ;) lol

... The thing that got me to try the 15 as my every day general use knife, was the fact that most say it doesn't work well in that role. I'm kinda hard headed, and when someone says something won't work, I set out top price them wrong. After just a few outings with it I came to the realization that the 15 fits me perfectly. Its the same 1095 a the rest of the blades we love, so it sharpens easily, it holds an edge great, it slices nicely, carves great, throws sparks good, I've battoned a truck load with it, and just got done cleaning 14 nice bluegill. Its a great little blade, and it deserves a chance to prove itself in other scenarios besides the kitchen.
Thats my opinion, fwiw.

I agree:thumbup:

You guys need to read the Becker Rule Book !!! :D It covers all these questions of which one, what's your thoughts, which is better, etc..., etc... . Not sure what # these are but i KNOW they're in there:

It does NOT matter, as you WILL end up owning most of the entire line eventually anyway !
EVERYONE needs a BK5/BK15 combo !
Yes, the BK10 is THAT good !

I"m just sayin'.
LOL :D
