Curious... Japanese Slipjoints

i'm posting this because i know nothing about them save in fiction books (notably "you only live twice" by ian fleming): Japanese cops who carry stubby slipjoints to comply with the 2-inch blade limit. what about their military? any dope on this? thanks.
