Curious

Yes.

I have heard of one, maybe two that have actually broken. I don't have the link right now, but I know that one was broken by "some guy" who was out throwing it a ton. Very hard steel == not good for throwing, so the thing eventually broke right in two from the stress fractures.

I've never heard of one breaking from "normal" usage though.

I'm sure someone else will come in and correct me if I'm wrong, and/or provide links :).

I heard the bk2 can cut Chuck Norris. So no, nothing on earth can break that knife.

His replacement. Yeah, Kabar replaced it. Customer service? Yeah, we got it.

in 30 years, there's been a couple broken ones. mostly abuse from what i recall.

I was under the impression that even abuse (short of cutting it, de-heat treating it, or hydrogen bombing it) could not break this knife. Oh well, live and learn.

you can break anything if you try

Don't throw hardened steel knives. Simple concept. Micro fractures start with the first throw, and just get bigger with each addition throw. Eventually, it will break.

You wanna throw knives, try throwing knives, they are soft.

But, its your knife, do what you wish.

Just post pics. :D

I want to share this story of abuse. It is hard for me to watch but this was one of the deciding factors in favor of a bk2. Please be aware that this is a trilogy and that you must watch all 3 all the way to the end to see the true power of both blades.

Oh dear lord! I've never seen that before. And I don't know if I'd ever want to watch it again. Pretty impressive on both parts though.

I am not sure but i think if the bk2 will be on top will do the same damage to rc5, if i am wrong please correct me with pics or videos
Thank you

Here is just a thought...

I throw my BK2 against a tree, it hits the tree on the spine and bounces to the ground causeing micro fractures.

Now I grab another BK2 to baton with, I use a strong branch and beat the hell out it slamming the branch into the spine.

So here is my question, why would throwing it against a tree cause fractures but beating the hell out of it with a branch will not?

I don't throw my knives but I do beat the hell out of them from time to time.....

I think the main idea is that the force of the baton goes straight through the knife into the wood (think croquet balls or those weird metal ball pendulum things) when you are batoning. There shouldn't be much (if any) resonance.

When you're throwing a knife it hits the hard object and resonates (think tuning fork) which causes the micro fractures.

I'm sure someone (everyone?) will correct me if I'm wrong, but thats how I understand it.
