Curly Cue, purpose?

Hey guys, I'm looking at getting a Kephart and I'm wondering about the Curly Cue option.

Is it for looks? Hanging?

How would it look with g10 scales? I'm guessing it typically goes on a knife that has wood covers, not synthetic. The g10 I'm looking at is natural.

Also, I'm leaning toward a tapered tang, so I doubt that works anyway.

I use it to scratch my head...

yes, I don't think a tapered tang is compatible.

I wanna say they're for striking a fire, but more for aesthetics.

I think it would look good ok in natural G10. I think it would look awesome in a nice rustic grained wood like Bacote.

Another question.

I've seen some pics with firesteels that have handles that match the scales on the knife. Are those being made by the knifes owner, or by Andy?

I learned the curley cue thing from Rick Marchand during a collaboration. Its only function beyond the aesthetics is to irritate my mentor Carl Rechsteiner who has always wanted me to forge more. Haha.

It won't work of course with a tapered tang, and G10 doesn't really fit it well.

Well, since I have seen Andy do a whole lot more tapered tangs than curly cues lately your chances of getting a tapered tang are much better :) I have only seen one curly cue Kephart lately and it belonged to an individual.

Erich my man, the only way that photo could be any more impressive would be if it were one each of every model Andy has ever done a curly cue on! Nice little group of curly cues!

Man, I really like those. They just add a lot of rustic goodness to the knife.

I guess it'll have to wait until I get a Bushcrafter. My first FF *needs* to be my grail. ;)

Woah... That's some serious hardware. I absolutely love how you had the set matched. My favorite is the little Karda. If they were all different I'd probably like another one, but it really looks cool in the set.

It's almost like you chose every option available (c. cue, bolsters, etc). I guess there's still hand rubbed and I can't tell if yours are tapered or not, but the configuration is lovely.

I was mostly kidding - I think it is just a little addition of flare - like the bullseye tue - you don't need a bullseye tube - but... WHY NOT? ;)

No worries man, we're good, I got that you were kidding. I just wanted one more opportunity to say how much I like them. :D
