Here's a knife that's I thought deserved something special for the sheath. The knife is made from 1/8" O-1, heat treated to rockwell 58-59, mirror polished, and handled with AAA grade curly maple and brass guard/pins/tube. The wood turned out to have a small flaw which easily filled with finish, but you can see it so it should be mentioned. The picture looking down on the back of the knife will show the flaw right behind the guard on the right side.

The sheath is carved with an oak leaf pattern which is very 3-D in person. This is actually my first carved sheath not counting carving for stitch grooves and piping. It was directly inspired by Lamont Coombs' Randal style bowie sheath in the Gallery section of this site. I've got to give a shout out and a big thank-you to Lamont for the inspiration he's provided through his work and his advice.

OAL is 8", blade 3 1/2". $190 + $8 shipping, paypal preferred to patrickbarter@gmail.com

Thanks for looking, and let me know what you think.

quality! What did you use to stain the handle?? It left it light but darkened up the stripes perfect!!!

Thanks! For this one, I used the Birchwood Casey walnut stain. Rubbed on and off very quickly. After it dried, it got 1000 grit hand-sand to the desired lightness and contrast and then 8-10 coats of Tru-Oil. Someone who's seen it in person remarked that it looks like you're looking through a stand of tall birch trees at dusk.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm really happy that you see it as art. That's a goal and an intent that all of my knives share.

Thats some lovely carving on the sheath and I really like the knife. They compliment each other nicely. Keep up the good work! It's been added to my wanted to buy list! I'm keeping my eye on you.

I'm giving this one a rest. No longer for sale on BF. If you're interested in it, email/pm me and I'll let you know if it's still around.
