Anyone got any good sources for curly maple? There is always some nice stuff on E-bay, but it seems sorta pricey. Thanks for any help in advance.

have two to check- www.gunstocksplus.com or the other is www.gunstockwood.com I received some from the latter several years ago and it was all good - just asked for tomahawk or knife handle material. Huge box for I thouhgt a goodprice. Mike Went back to check these sites and go to the first and check out the rifle by Sid Poor - an old friend from Missouri

I bought a box of knife handle size scraps of various woods from them for under $50.00 a few years back - I got a selection of curly maple, ash, and hickory - not everything was great, but most was nice to VERY nice.
Here are two of the pieces of the maple included - finished up while experimenting with a couple of different types of Aqua Fortis "stain" (IMO the BEST stain for curly maple - the wood will look like fire opal when used properly.....)

One of these days they'll get turned into handles.......

Dunlaps will of course also sell you pieces of just maple - ask for hard rock maple to make sure you get only sugar and/or red maple. Silver and other species of maple often have great grain but are too soft to be of value without stabilizing......
They also sell tomahawk handles - both regular and drilled for making pipehawks. here's a couple of examples......

John,
Check out Cook-Woods, they have a big online store and eBay site. I bought a chunk of curly maple from them and don't plan on having to buy maple for a longgggg time. Huge selection of all types of wood, great service and good people to boot.

I bought some knife blocks from TKS a year or so ago - they were $4 each. Seem to have good figure, but I haven't cut into them yet.
