Current Camp Tramp Equivalent?

I lusted after a Camp Tramp for a while. I had planned on ordering one after the supply problems fixed themselves. But life moved on and I kind of forgot about them. Now I'm looking for a large 7-9in blade knife again and I'm back for the Camp Tramp. Only I see it doesn't exist anymore.

What happened to the great resiprene-c handles? That seemed to be one of the best things about Swamp Rats. What would you guys say is the current Camp Tramp equivalent? And how long do I have to wait till I can get one (since I see SR has switched to the Busse style of selling)?

Yes, I know CTs can be found in the exchange, but I have no desire to pay a premium for a safe queen or something "collectible"...

Thanks.

Buy a scrapper six from scrapyard knives. Res C handle .275" thick blade six inches long and $89.95 they are in stock now.

Mfg Part # 75025
Inventory Out-of-Stock
Price: $89.95

I checked 5 minutes before my initial post. And just now. So if there WERE any in the 20 minutes gap around midnight on a sunday, there aren't any now. ;)

There is supposed to be an S7 from Scrap Yard and the S6 is supposed to be released again. So if you can hold out for one of them...

Let's not forget those killer Mini Mojo's in the Co. store.

Reseprene smeshapene. Micarta rules! Seriously though, the reseprene (for me anyways) was never thick enough on the larger blades for my liking. These new tac handle patterns on the Rat kick total #$%!:D

New Scrapyard offering come around for like 5 seconds every 60 days. BTW, they're releasing Mojos this week, so same diff as here. Nevertheless I'm totally getting one of those too.

I just watched a CT go for 200 on the exchange this weekend so they are out there for a reasonable price if your willing to watch and wait. And yes, 200 is very reasonable for a CT. But I like my Ratwieler muuuuch better. :)

My apologies sir. I got one of these when they first came out, and really liked it. I have been visiting the site periodically looking for a dumpster mutt, and made the erranous assumption that since the two scrapper sixes were the only knives listed on the place order page, and they had the "add to cart" button available, that they were available. I just went and tried to add one, and, low and behold, you are 100% correct, they are not in stock. Sorry about that. Just reminded me of the old saying about assumptions (assume=makes an ass out of me).

As of this morning, there was a tan CT available on the exchange. I don't recall who was selling it, but a little digging and you should be able to find it. Good luck.

Pfft. I watched a user, re-edged-by-SW CT go for $165 or so on KF last week.

I looked at it a whole week and some hog finally put me out of my misery. Not one grab in that whole week. It was a steal of a deal.

The Rat Mojos in micarta are pretty nice. I snagged one this weekend in Eugene from 360joules and love it. It would easily do the same chores a CT would perform.

User?? Re-edged?? People use their Rats??? No wonder it sat so long!! Guess someone felt sorry for the pitifull thing. :p Nothing more pathetic looking than a poor abused old Rat with fur missing in places and half its tail missing. :o

Thanks for the responses guys. Now I have to decide if I want to get a CT on the used market or "settle" for the Scrapper 6 if/when it becomes available. What are your thoughts on the differences between these two? I know the steel is different. Is it noticeable? Is there a difference in quality? The Scrapper is of course smaller but I don't have a problem with that. Any other comments?

Oh, and where would I get a sheath for either?

Thanks.

The CT is slightly thinner stock, its wider by a bit, and longer by approx 1".

As for weight I bet the CT is only slightly heavier, and the handles are identical.

No difference in quality at all, they are made in the same shop after all, so the QC is the same. The steel all that much different, they are both high impact steels so you wont notice any performance differences.

I've got both in the shop right now so I can take some pics to show the visual diferences.

Sheath? hmmm, dunno, I've seen someone bend a milk jug into a sheath once, and another fella mashed a PVC pipe into a pretty nifty sheath.

:p

Tell me about it! I just missed that, Dr Bill took it shortly before I found that post. Rather prefer tan, but beggars can't be choosers. I have been on the lookout for a CT user for a while, the minty ones are getting more than I want to spend. See what happens when you stop checking multiple forums multiple times a day? :grumpy:

Hey Minjin, I'm not sure if you are aware or not, but if you do decide to shoot for a Scrapper 6, there will be an offering of them available from the SYKCO Store on Thursday as well as two other new 7" SYKCO Recurves. Sheaths for the Scrapper 6 are also sold from the company store.

Here is a link for more information on this upcoming offering.

All right, well good luck to you and happy hunting!
