current Competition Finish vs coated-then-stripped

Count me as a lucky one I guess, 4 strippers and all were pretty damn clean underneath. Only one was INFI though and it was a CG BB13, which was surface ground before it was coated.

I haven't ordered any CF yet, but might in the future as the cost has been reasonable. I do like etched logos though, so that's one reason I might buy coated and continue to do DIY "comp finish" strippers.

I enjoy stripping/sanding/finishing and doing my own handle smoothing, although with fullers and CBT's it is nice to have a relatively low cost option to have it done already.

I have also gravitated to the thought process of using a coated blade for a good while and then doing the stripping/mod work on down the line, as opposed to thinking something has to go immediately to a mod shop or it is not optimized.

As long as the knife is sharp, no reason not to use it as is for awhile and then mod - I don't have the equipment/know how to convex everything right off the bat when I get it. If I did, I would just do edge work at first, and then strip later on down the line. For known keepers with v-grind, I think I am going to go back to the stones for a few just to keep up that skill.

These comp finish versions appear to be a lot more "finished" than earlier versions I have owned based on pictures alone.

I've noted this myself...it's nice:thumbsup:...but it's almost "too refined" for my porkish palate.

I'm guessing the bossman is trying to strike a balance between giving the Hogs what we want-- "More CF!!!"-- but at the same time trying to avoid some of the returns because of the more random tooling marks that would occasionally turn up on original recipe CF. He's been pretty clear that the new run of CF is "gremlin free." So, it'd seem to me he's trying to give everyone the best of both worlds...THANKS!

Bring on the Comp. Finish BattleSaw now!!! :D

Yes, I would say to Jerry, keep the CF alive from now on to eternity.

This piglet wanders if the CF blades will come in the plastic netting like Satin INFI. Although, this piglet has never had a piece of Satin INFI, he still wanders.

Mine did. Plastic netting and tactical cardboard sheath.

Everything I've gotten lately had the netting, whether satin or coated, INFI or SR-101.
