Current Issue U.S. Navy TL-29

Just won this one on the 'bay.
(I hope it's ok that I post this link, since the auction's over... if not, I apologize and will remove it.)
My new (old) TL-29...
I picked this one because of the Xcelite etching on the blade... some of my favorite electrical tools are Xcelite branded.

That clears things up, for me. That's the same one I had referred to earlier, that we used when I was in the Navy back in the '80s. It was included in the Xcelite tool kits we used. I was pretty sure it was a Camillus, but had forgotten about the Xcelite branding. Those are indeed very good tools, BTW. Pretty expensive, too. :p

I had one in my pocket for about 6 years, 4 while in the Air Force and a couple years after I got on with the FAA. Great little users just not a lot of quality, but for the price you could beat them up pretty good. A few years ago I gave a few away on here and it got me thinking about how useful the knife was. I had talked to Reese several times about the knife and just this morning I got the ball rolling on a R. Bose version of the TL29 with D2..that's about as far as we got other than he doesn't want to put a bail on it. I wont use it unless it has a bail or at least a lanyard hole?? If anyone is interested I will post a pic once it is completed.

I don't think there has been any issue knives marked TL-29 for decades, but as far as I know, all branches of the military still issue them when and where they see fit. Much like Mil-K-818s, many servicemen may never see one, even if they are in an MOS where it would be good to have. I don't know if there are any set contracts for them these days, or if they just order up some commercial electrician's knives when needed that meet specs...hopefully US made ones.

Im not quite sure but in the first pic of the new klein it looks like its marked USA on the tang. but I could be wrong. Modoc ed what say you.

Yes, it's made in the U.S.A. most likely by Utica as stated by alfaholic.

WOW, instant childhood memories of using one of those knives from my father or grandfather. Bet i could still dig one those up. Along with one or two I acquired during my six years in the Navy from '86-'92 also an ET2 (up for 1st). Good post!

One of these and one of the three blade models are now on my must have list. Im working on a 2 year associates degree in Electrical technology and I would love to have a true electricians knife to work with, even though its not completely necessary and my case stockman does fine. but since im a knifeaholic why not two more.
