I graduated the Police Academy at 21. Pretty young and dumb. I had to have a Spyderco Police Model. It never let me down. Carried it clipped to a strap on my ballistic vest. Couldn't draw it out of my pants pocket under my duty belt. Still love it, still carry it. Tip down only!

Kinda current service. I work in a prison now.

I am no longer current but I carried the same knife for years.
I so wish I was "current" so I could tell you................................

No, you just called everyone out.

The biggest "knife" mistake you are making is assuming that military or law enforcement means that you know about knives and makes one a "real" expert. It doesn't.

^^^ This

As a medic for 8 years and current trauma unit member who used blades daily to help save lives rather than take them, I went through tons of blades to arrive at my preferences. However, firefighters, medics, other trauma responders didn't qualify at your level of expertise, so I can't comment.

I am current LE, work in patrol for a medium sized municipality. I carry a Leatherman Wave on my belt and a Benchmade Contego clipped in my pocket.

Use the Leatherman often for the drivers and the blade. The Contego has only one purpose and it's not utility.

Off duty I carry a more friendly blade, most often a Victorinox of some sort.

I was a weapons loader and armament systems maintainer on F-15's in the USAF. I (sometimes) carried some kershaw though I didn't bother to know what kind since I didn't get "into knives" til a couple years after I got out (served 05-09). I would've used it more except I had to look out before I used it since having "unauthorized" tools is a big no no in the shop and on the flightline. Since FOD is such an enormous concern to the point of insanity every single tool needs to be tracked and traceable for accountability purposes. So I had that kershaw sometimes but it never saw much use on the job. But I didn't know shit about knives at the time anyhow so no biggie

In a world torn by petty arguments and steel snobbery, knife nuts argue about their knife's fit and finish, and talk about how sucky the other guy's steel is.

One OP tries to make a difference in this world of warring factions (and people who learned the much sought after skill of the search function), but the rambunctious members he so blatantly opposes fight back in an effort to keep their way of life.

How will this play out?

Join us next week for the answer in the latest episode of "Repost That Reposted Post"! Goodnight, folks!

Just joking, don't go raging on me, please.

Bahahaha! Classic, thanks!

Seriously, the OP derailed his own thread......

Seems like it's still an interesting question-- let's assume the OP asked it correctly.

Please share! No limits-- how about if we say "What did you carry while in Uniform, or in theater?" Or "downrange?"

And let's say. . . . . . since 1861.

Otherwise the last two minutes anyone spent reading this thread will be a total waste.

I've been in LE for 8 years. First carry knife was a ZT0560. Awesome knife I just got a new one every year or so. I've carried a Spyderco Endura, then a Spyderco Superhawk. Now I'm on a Benchmade kick and carrying a Griptilian and just got a 908 Stryker. The ZT 0560 served me very well. I had to cut through metal wire more than a couple times and it cleaned up nicely. I beat the hell out of that knife.I also carry a waved Matriarch in a little pocket on my external vest carrier. I had a knock down drag out one time with a guy and had to fight for my gun... never again...

For over 25 years, I carried a SAK. I also had an issue Camillus and Ontario fixed blade as part of my survival kit.

The Death Dealer 2000, was supposedly carried by all the operator's involved in a certain top secret mission carried out last year in the Middle East. The Department of Justice, & the Department of State (to the best of my knowledge) are still presently trying their best to keep this highly sensitive information sealed...

obviously, the truth has leaked out! The reality is: unless you happen to know somebody in the SF/LEO community, your chances of ever obtaining the ever elusive Death Dealer 2000, are slim, to none.

I have in the past, placed 2 thread's in the WTB forum (seeking to buy a DD2000), but those thread's, mysteriously disappeared. If anyone here on the forum knows where I could find one of these, I would be eternally grateful.

I retired from LE in 2006. While I am certainly no expert, I do like knives and have never thought of them as weapons. In 25+ years I I used a knife twice to cut someone out of a jammed seat belt. That said, for the first half of my career "Tacticool" folders with Clips din't exist and I carried a Buck 112 in the Buck made pouch on my duty belt. Later when folders with clips came out I carried various Spydercos and them settled on a Benchmade AFCK (the only OHO folder I now have). When I made detective I mostly carried either a SAK Tinker or a medium Stockman (Case or Schrade) and put the tactical folders in a box. Today I carry Stockman and SAKs.

I'm not an expert but I have carried Spyderco and Kershaw. I prefer Spyderco just because the Kershaw I had were assisted openers and I prefer things more simple, though I have never ever had a problem with my kershaws.

On my gear, a MK3 Mod0 dive knife.
On my person, something cheap and sharp, usually a POS that I could abuse and not worry about losing.

I posted earlier in this thread about how I didn't use a knife much in the Air Force but I guess it's worth mentioning that 2 of my best friends were in different branches and carried knives on deployments. One, a USMC heavy machine gunner, carried you guessed it, a USMC Kabar through 3 deployments to Iraq once and Afghanistan twice. The other, Army infantry, carried a Gerber LMFII and a CRKT M16 (I think, might have been the m21 or whatever it is). All were used heavily and never failed, the USMC Kabar saw use in close combat.

Since starting my LE career in 2001 (still active)I have had a couple of changes in my go to knife maker. I started off with a couple Spyderco models and switched to Benchmade triage. Then I had a bad customer service experience with Benchmade so I went back to Spyderco.

I have recently gotten into custom/mid tech knives and have been carrying a couple different Medford Knife & Tool models. I have found that the Medford overbuilt style works best for me. I also have always carried or at least had in my gear a multi tool. I have found that the Leatherman brands held up better than Gerber.
