I always thought that the cutouts in my ka-bar BK-9 tang were rather unnecessary and lessened my appreciation of the knife a little.

Then today i see a pic in another thread of a Campanion without it's handles.
It had no cutouts!
I was flabberghasted and immediately came here to ask the following.

What current production becker models have cutouts in their tang?

got a ka-bar bk-7 about three weeks ago, it has cut-outs. i too was under the impression that this was to improve the balance of the knife.

My BK-2 is solid and my BK-9 has the cutouts. I got my BK-9 towards the start of the year and my BK-2 a few months back.

Thombrogan - Thank you for the welcome. In regards to your question, not only do I wish I had a boat, but if I had a pony, I'd ride him on my boat.

my current production BK9 has NO cut outs.

solid state!

Well then you got yourself a rare factory error, and it should be worth significantly more than every other Ka-Bar made BK9 I've seen, including my own which does have handle cutouts underneath the grivory grips.
Congratulations on the rare find!
Could you post a pic?

My BK9 should be here some time this week. If it has a slight blem, I'll happily go chop up some wood and enjoy the day. If it's got missing jimping, I may stash it in the safe as a collector, then order another one. In today's dollars, they're a smokin' deal IMO.

When I put on the micarta scales on my camillus BK7, mine also had the cutouts in the tang. Some have said you could put very small items between the hollow old scales and the cut outs. I just feel the knife is balanced right with them.

My backup BK9 arrived today and after a very close inspection, I found it to be PERFECT. This knife has got to be the best value in it's class, hands down!

I just felt that the BK line was deserved some props for doing a superb job. Often times only the negatives get attention, even if they're rare and infrequent.

Huh? I dont see BK bashing at all. Are you talking about on BF?

There was one poster who, if any thread brought up either Becker or Ka-Bar, would jump in to trash them both. Apparently this poster wasn't happy with the fit and finish on a Becker, even though Ethan and Paul replaced this persons knife/knives about three times, this... person... still took every opportunity to hunt down any thread that mentioned Becker and talk smack. It was totally outrageous. Yeah, it was here on BF. Just go through the Becker forum and you'll find examples.

If I were lightning, I'd get a few more Beckers
In case some get lost hiking in the trees
I'd use 'em at the lighthouse; I'd use 'em at the stables
And they would not scare my pony on my boat out on the sea

I have ordered a Campanion which should be only a few countries away by now, and i will probably buy one or two BK7's regardless of their tang design.

Speechless...sir, speechless.

Did we figure out whether the solid tang bk-9 was an anomoly?

Hey Guys....

The cut outs give a more forward "hang " and tends to improve the chopping qualities of a blade...It costs a little more (more burn time at the laser joint) but it does NOT weaken the blade and I like the balance better......Next production run of the CAMPANIONs will have the cut outs added as well as the headache maker - hammer on this point at the butt...

All Best....
