This is what I am working on. A fillet knife, heat threat done. Small utility/ring/noideawhattocallit knife to go with a marlin spike which I am not sure is suppose to look like. So more shaping to do on those two.

If anyone has any reason why those two knives should not me completed speak now or forever hold your piece. ;)

Thanks for the good words Jason. I will use rubber mat for the fillet knife scales so I am afraid I may not be able to make it look very good. We'll see.

Oh man I'm sorry to hear that! To me it screams for Black horn scales and copper hardware! and becuase I've never seen a rubber scale handle I liked. If your set on a rubber handle may I suggest Rubber Tool Dip

I realy like the fillet knife and the others are looking good also.
Pat keep up the good work.

Patrice,
I've got no experience with this personally but i've read that if you freeze the rubber before cutting and shaping thins will go much better. Maybe someone with firsthand knowledge will advise

That was a Freudian slip if I ever heard one: heat threat indeed!

Maybe he tried some of IG's HT relish ;).

I'm not sure if freezing will work on horse-stall mat. I've tried it on neoprene scales and pieces cut from (printer's) tint-sleeve material (not sure what that actually is, it looks like black rubber but I don't know the actual composition.) Anyway, leaving them in the kitchen freezer overnight didn't do much of anything to them. Which is good that they didn't get brittle, but it didn't make them easier to work either. Did you do more testing on getting that material to stay glued down?

Thanks for the good words guys. I wish they made a spell checker that corrected more than simple grammar. :(

I would have liked to use something else for the handle but this one is going to be used a lot and my friend (friend may not be the right word as I think of him more as a second father) will appreciate much more the practical aspect of the rubber handle than he would a pretty one.

I will try the freezing tip. Only down point I see with that is that you don't have much time to work on it as the grinding will heat it up fast. I'll try with a fresh belt and very low speed. I did not try the RV silicon yet. I am having a hard time finding the stuff. I will let you know when I do.

Fillet is 1095 1/8".

Thanks again.

Patrice
