My Cuscadi Scales came in! I'm super stoked. There was one issue...but I'll email Luke about that since I don't really know who's fault it was. I'm ready to rip this grip apart and break in the sexy, but I want to make sure I do it right. I've gone over Steven's Video on disassembly already. The only question is if I have an ok lubricant, and if my loctite is a good choice. Here's some pics:

German Gummy bears! Goldbären. Awesome.

I have Norton's mineral oil used for the stones, and blue permatex threadlocker. Should I be all set? (I should mention that I like to use my blade for occasional food prep. Bread, veggies, and etc.)

Looks good, should be fine. Don't choke on a gummy bear....that would be simply unbearable

Wow, that white scale/black spacer combo looks amazing. I bet the satin blade would look sweet in those. :)

Haha. I'm thinking I won't even eat these. Keep em as a souvenir or something. My friend is visiting for a week and just brought a ton of japanese candy...so I'm good on the foreign candy front, lol. On another note...the japanese have some crazy ass candies.

Jesus christ...does Benchmade use JB weld for loctite? I'm getting carpel tunnel trying to scrape this crap out.

Also, just out of curiosity, what are these two holes on the blade tang? I didn't see any on the blade in the breakdown thread.

Those white scales look nice! I've got a black set with the blue glow backspacer on the way now. Seeing your thread makes the wait even tougher!! :p

Thanks! I was going to stick with the glow spacer, but I like the black contrast. My axis lock is black so it matches nice. And the wait is hard...but Luke does take care of you. And german post is sneaky! I checked the status all the way up to day, daily. And the last note it had was "origin getting ready to send" or whatever. (Origin meaning germany) Next thing I know it tells me it's on my doorstep o_o

Phyew! 3 hours later...

Let me start with a few helpful hints for anyone putting some Cuscadi scales on for the first time.
1. WORK SLOWLY AND DELIBERATELY. These things don't just snap on. We all know Luke and his buddy over at Cuscadi. We all know how good they are at what they do. But you have no idea HOW good until you put these scales on. They fit BETTER than a glove. There were some points where it wasn't going on right, until I adjusted part of the scales and POP, right in place. There is absolutely NO wiggle room on these things. 10x better looking, better fit, and better grip than the originals.

2. GET A T9 WRENCH. The Griptilian scales use T6 and T10 wrenches to get the scales off (T10 for pivot, T6 for everything else). So it would only make sense to need only those two sizes on Cuscadi's scales, right? Wrong. You'll need a T6 for the middle screw, for the liners. T10 for the pivot. And a T9 for the three scale screws. At least, this was how it was on my scales. Crazy germans..I thought I was screwed (pun intended) and that I would have to wait until tomorrow to put them together (THE WHOLE THING WAS ALREADY TAKEN APART). Thank god for my leatherman and it's security bit set that I had.

3. BE CAREFUL WITH THE BACK SPACER PIN FOR THE AXIS LOCK CARTRIDGE. Here's a pic:
This is the pin.

And this is where the pin goes

This thing will fall out a lot during re-assembly if you're not careful. (Edit: also, get a flashlight...that thing is a B**CH to find without one) Try to get a set of needle nose pliers before doing this, because you will not want to take the cartridge apart every time the pin falls out. Re-inserting them with the pliers will be much easier and much less aggravating. (Again, the Leatherman was invaluable on this too. If you don't have one already then you need to step it up people :p)

4. ADMIRE THEM SUCKAS AFTERWARDS. Pics in next post.

You know what else I figured out? I was working with my fingertips slightly blackened with grease from the knife and whatnot. I was trying to be careful with touching the scales because they are white...but ended up manhandling it towards the end because you can't be dainty and get the job done at the same time. These white G-10 handles held out very well though. I don't even see any noticeable black smudges or anything. +1 to G-10!
