Custom 110 Pics-Help Please?

Here is a few more.

THAT right there is an investment!

Very nice and unususal! That's the only one I've ever seen from the Custom Shop with a standard blade stamp. It appears to be a standard 110 blade from 2009 if I'm seeing the date stamp right (right pointing arrow). Every one I have (from the new CS at least) has the Custom stamp, even the ones with a 420HC blade.

Going back and looking at all the pictures again, I see that there are others without the custom stamp. I'm surprised that I hadn't seen that before.

Buck did a short run of the 112's out of the custom shop. These were not stamped with the custom stamps, so one must have the card that came from the shop to know it's a CS made knife. Some to the DM blades also did not have the CS stamp.

Yes, a Custom Shoppe blade really should be stamped Custom.

What WERE they thinking???

I would have grabbed a couple Damascus had they not been sold with the same stamp as a Wal-Mart special.

Still mad about that.

Both of my damascus models have the standard Buck/Custom/USA stamp on the front side and Designers Choice on the other side. This one (not from the custom shop) has the newer Buck/Anvil/Custom/USA stamp but nothing on the other side.

JB, that Paua shell 110 is a beauty! My daughter saw it and reminded me that she turns 30 in March and that model with a mirror polish blade would sure make a nice birthday present from her ole dad. You may have just cost me 5 bills and change.

Hi Sit, bear, & BH,

That 112 was a special order Buck knife from SMKW and not one of the CS 112's. When the box came and that gem of a 112 was inside, I was a happy man.

I have to tell you BH, the photo's don't do that Paua shell justice.....it's way better looking in hand. I hope that comment helps you make up your mind;).

Thanks for the kind words guys......But, Buck should be the folks getting the praise for their wonderful knives.

Not nearly as nice as some of these others, but a custom 110, indigo diamondwood (i.e. laminate), nickel silver bolsters, S30V blade, finger grooves and exposed rivets. The picture is somewhat dark, but the indigo coloring is very nice in normal lighting:

I just got my custom koa knife. I'm disappointed with the wood grain compaired to other that I see here. What was the point spending the extra money to get koa? Here's a pic. What do you think?

I think it's very sad. That's about the worst piece of Koa I've seen and I thought one of mine was bad (post 4 ,picture 3). I'd advise you to do what I didn't and that's to pitch a fit. Not really a fit, but contact Joe Houser through the forum here and express (nicely) your displeasure with it. I'm sure that Joe will go the extra mile to fix you up.

Good luck.

What's the other side look like?

It lacks the pretty stripes we expect with KOA, but as a wood slab--it looks real good.

Nice color, nice grain.....old-school look.

Too bad they engrave the blade marks now.......I don't buy knives with engraving instead of stamps.

To be completely honest about it, although I have at least ten 110's from the Custom Shop, I've only ordered four myself. All the rest were purchased from their prior owners. Of those four, one was ordered as a gift and I never had it in my hand. It was Heritage Walnut and the person I ordered it for loves it and it looks really good in his pictures of it.

However, of the three that I ordered for myself (Sambar Stag, Koa Flamewood and Cherrywood) the only one I wasn't disappointed with was the cheapest one, the Cherrywood! The Sambar might as well be elk and the Koa just sucked.

If the Koa that they are using now is the best they can do, I urge Buck to do one of two things. Either change the picture in the build page so you see a more representative idea of what you are getting or drop the Koa completely and change to something they can provide. As far as the Sambar is concerned, if you have to look at the COA to see if it's Elk or Sambar, what's the point of paying the extra $$$$?

Well, it's nice, but it doesn't look like KOA usually looks. That said, it has some appeal.

Looks a little like the lighter versions of the old Macassar.

Remember that it's solid wood, not plywood like the cheaper options, so there's one reason why you pay more for it.

That wood looks like oak to me...
JB, There were some 100,-- 112's offered at the 20yr. Reunion with 3 dot blades in them and ram's horn slabs. DM
