Custom 110 - To use or not

"To use or not to use, that is the question". But not, "Poor 110, I knew him well". "A man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do". "If I were a carpenter and my 110 a lady, would I pry with her anyway, would I cry like a baby". "Seek not what you can do with your custom 110, but ask your mother would want you to do".

I've seen custom 110's selling for way more than the standard model so customs do have a higher value... I know that was not the question but it leads to an answer...

With your name on the blade it lessons the value as it only collectible to people with that name.

I have a small gold lighter/folding knife set my mother had engraved for me 37 years ago.
I have always kept them at home in my jewelry box.

In 37 years take a wild guess at how many lighters, and knives I have lost, broken, or had stolen. Hundreds!

My mom passed early. Around 20 years ago. I look at that set every day, and thank her for them.

So if it's a custom "value" that worries you... forget about it!
There are things that can not be measured in monetary value.

Get a wally world 110, and tell mom why! She'll understand.

Another thought DR, if you do use it frequently, it will be a constant reminder of your Mom as opposed to storing it and occasionally looking at it. Just another thought.

That's a great way of looking at it.

I haven't literally LOL for quite a while reading this forum. That response did it

I have no desire to sell the knife. I could never do that. I was thinking of it more along the line of not wanting to get a scratch on it and keeping it in perfect condition.
I asked her about it and she said she got it for me to use, so she would like me to use it. I think that is what I am going to do. I'll keep it in the sheath and hopefully it will never get lost or stolen. That would really be heartbreaking to me.
I thought about getting a Wally World 110, but I'm not really a fan of the brass bolsters.

Thank you, all, for your input and the time taken to respond. Lots of great, thoughtful answers here.

USE!! What are you doing? Saving it in mint condition for the next generation to throw out or pawn for 5$?

The knife is not so rare you will be destroying a piece of history by using it. But your mom did buy it for you. It would be shaming the knife's history NOT to use it. That way when you die they can go in your pocket and find this knife wellused and go "see this was clearly his beloved knife"

Use it and enjoy it! Don't let it die in the box. Of course if you want to keep it just as a collection piece there is nothing wrong with that either.

Yep, that's what I have decided to do. On a side note, I always like your posts. Always to the point and you don't hold anything back.

Just adding a couple photos of this beauty for those who asked. Thanks again to all who replied.

That's a sharp looking knife. That's a sharp looking edge on that sharp looking knife too. I would have to use this knife once and a while, absolutely. Even if just for special occasions.

Beautiful 110 buddy.

Thank you :)

Thank you. I've decided to use this one on weekends and I ordered the DLT Trading Exclusive 110 for work. Now, I'll have the best of both worlds with the two different blade styles and both having the S30V steel. I'll continue using this one until it gets here, though. It's already came in handy a few times tonight.

Use it! Use the heck out of it and one day when you need it perfect again so you can pass it forward Spa Service!
I've been using this finally. Up until now it was just looked at and admired then put back in the drawer. I have a lot of knives from a variety of makers. After finally using this, I like it best of all my knives. It is so solid and hefty in my hands compared to other knives I have and I love that. Such a great knife to use.

It is a beautiful knife, thanks for sharing the photo. Enjoy!

I am very much enjoying it, finally. Just had to get over that notion that I didn't want to have any marks on it. Now, my thought is it will just give it some character. I have no children to pass this down to, so I'm just going to use it and let it develop it's own character.
