I wasn't sure which scale provider to contact about mokume work so I'm posting here.
Here's my idea; Benchmade Adamas scales featuring lightning strike carbon fiber scales with bronze/copper wire, and bronze/copper "twist" pattern mokume bolsters. Bolsters will be flat, and I'd like the LSCF to have a "reptilian" grind pattern (like this: http://imgur.com/fiDL2K1 ). I do not want the scales brought to a fine polish, this will still be a hard use work blade so I don't want to worry about scratches on a shiny surface. I do not want the liner holes revealed like the normal adamas, I do not want lanyard holes, and I only want clip holes drilled for right hand carry. I also do not want the jimping on the scales; so the only jimping will be on the liners and blade, like the 710.
I would also like a new backspacer in LSCF. I think the backspacer should have jimping that matches the liners, otherwise it might just look and feel awkward. If you have another idea let me know. I love "geared" backspacers (like the Spyderco Techno) but I don't know how that would look with the jimping on the liners.
For the clip, I'd like a large "carved" mokume clip. The style where the showing face is pretty much flat, and the underside has the relief cut that makes it a functional clip. The overall shape I'll leave up to you, I'd like it to somewhat follow the profile of the Adamas handle so it looks like it's part of the design. Also I don't want the clip to actually contact the scale where it would grip my pocket. I know this is really nit picky, but I've found with these thick clips that don't have much give they are ridiculous to use when they actually press down on the scale. This is a work knife that needs to go in and out of my jeans pocket easily while I'm sitting, squatting, standing, whatever. I've looked at mokume online and it seems to mostly come in 1/8" thickness, which I don't think is thick enough for this kind of clip. I though it might work with basically flat mokume with little LSCF chunks underneath it at each end to make the overall clip shape? Let me know if you have other ideas.
Thanks for reading all that! I'm in no huge rush, I don't even have an Adamas yet but I can have it by the end of next week if you need me to send it to you. I don't want one unless I can get this done so I'll wait to hear from someone that wants to give it a shot first.
As far as shipping and payment, I'm in southern California and I've got paypal cash ready.
Thanks,
-Zack
