Small surface fissures in the ironwood are stable, natural texture:

Just a note guys, ironwood is natuarally a very strong wood and the piece used on this knife is one of the nicest figured pieces I have seen. The surface fissures are just on the surface and give the wood a very natural look . There is nothing to worry about with the strength or durability of this wood.
