Looks like fingerprints. Try wiping the blade with some WD40 on a clean rag or paper towel.

Hey maddiedou, a question- the 110's with the brass thumb studs attached to the blades, are those actually auto's?

The reason I ask is, it seems strange that someone would put a thumb stud on an auto, unless they are double-action autos (can be opened manually, or like a switchblade). I also don't see any blade catch hole in the ricasso of the blades on those knives. But then it would also be strange to put a button in the handles if they aren't autos. So I'm a bit bewildered by those knives.

I appreciate the offer maddiedou :) , but I wouldn't have a use for them, I'm not one to openly display my knives.

You could put the cases up for sale in the Exchange. There is a section for non-knife stuff. You can find it under the "For Sale by Individuals" section, and then under "Gadgets & Gear". Members of this forum are sometimes looking for display cases. It's just a matter of determining the quality and condition of the cases, and deciding on a price.

You might not have seen it because I went back and added it after I mentioned the part about fingerprints and WD40, but I asked a question about a few of your 110's in my last post. But it's just a matter of curiosity.

I did not see that about the 110s and maybe that is what a guy was referring to earlier in a pm

He used about the same words like a double action or something

Can you post videos on here if so I will video and post

Okay the thumb thing will open knife and it is also a automatic

I dont want to take thumb studs out t because I dont know how they are in the blade

So yes it works both ways

I typed most of this before your last post-

The only way I know how to post videos here is through my Youtube account, and post the Youtube link for the video. There might be a way to post videos direct from ones computer, but I'm the wrong person to ask. I'm not all that knowledgeable regarding computer stuff.

But I do know about double-action autos. Typically with an auto there is a mechanism that holds the blade closed. A form of catch or "sear" hooks into a hole in the ricasso of the blade (the part where "Buck 110" is stamped), or drops into a cutout in the tang of the blade near the blade pivot. And when the button is pressed the catch/sear rises releasing the blade.

But on a double-action knife, instead of the catch/sear holding the blade closed, it holds the spring back in the compressed position, this allows the blade to be opened manually without the spring or button being involved, or the knife can be opened automatically by pressing the button releasing the spring. What is also typical is that the means of releasing the spring tends to be hidden in the design of the knife. Instead of a visible button it tends to be either a hidden button or a rotating bolster or handle scale etc.

Now in regards to your last post confirming that they are double-action, that's very interesting. I'd say double-action Buck autos are even more rare than left-handed Buck autos. Unfortunately I can't find enough previous sales of D/A Buck 110 autos to come up with a fair, current price (that's how rare they are). I see you're asking $172, and I'd say that's quite fair, and a good deal for the buyers. You will definitely want to mention in the sales listing that they are double-action.

Wow. Your right (which of course you are) i just tried to open a automatic by hand and cannot open without button

But I can either manually or with button open the other two but gosh and probably just me it aint easy to manually open I mean it is but just seems awkward

I dont really see the reason behind the manual/automatic knife but somebody did

Thanks. Killgar you really dont understand how much I appreciate this and wish there was something I could do but I understand just like me grading coins for people I dont charge them either

Dual action autos are a way for someone to carry an auto without always drawing the attention from the SNAP on opening. I actually specifically collect D/A autos, I'm up to about 3 dozen🤣
