My friends in Nuclear Toughness,

Start giving me a feel for...

*what modes of carry you want (small of the back, inside the waistband, shoulder rig, along the back/spine, etc)

*what material (kydex or leather), and what specific Busse knives you would want to carry concealed...

I would like to get a feel for actually how many folks are interested in a project like this and what the consistencies are.

Many Thanks...

Since my gun is on my right hip, I like to put the knife somewhere on my left side. I I have found knives up to 4" blades are OK on the belt, anything larger has to either go in the pants in a slip or clip sheath or hung upside down under the left arm (shoulder holster.) I generally prefer kydex then nylon then leather in that order. Leather looks nice when it is new, but it just doesn't stand up in the long run. I am someone that is only REALLY out doors 3-4 times a year and if leather doesnt't hold up for me, I bet others that are out more will say the same.

PS. the badger attack that I traded for should be here today, with an eagle sheath. I haven't figured out how I'm going to carry it, I may need a new sheath. (IWB kydex.)

ALSO: For the smaller blades, a rig to ride on the lower leg area might be a seller. I could see a Mean Street or a Basic 3 being worn on the outside of the strong side leg.

Hmm let me see now.

BM Condura with kydex insert for normal waist carry. with external pouch for sharpeners or maybe a small survival kit

Rigged to be carried on the back/spine would be an advantage as well due to its length

SH E Condura with kydex insert for normal carry with external pouch attached

Shoulder rig would be an advantage as well, designed for carry in the back country. 'easy on and off'
since i carry most of my gear in a day sack and in pouches on my hip

I guess the MS would be great for IWB and small of back since ive carried my Benchmade Nimravus in those position for some time now and worked great for me

Personally, the Eagle style sheaths are quite appealing. Quiet-provided by Cordura, Durable-tolerates wet, dry, all temperature environments, virtually tear resistant,(not sure what type of plastic insert they use, but kydex lined would make sense otherwise), Multiple Carry Options- if properly designed with horizontal & vertical webbing along with multiple eyelets, anything should be possible.

Cordura with kydex insert that will hold the blade inverted on web gear would be great, if built as tough as these knives. Across the back would be my second choice, although a very close second. A dundee rig for the BM would be right up there as well.

As a martial artist who is in to self defense and carrying smaller blades for self defense, I would love to see a multi-carry kydex sheath for the mean street. Something along the lines of the Nealy MCS that can be carried IWB, small of the back, etc... An optional shoulder rig would also be great. I also like the idea for some form ov inverted kydex or cordura with kydex lining sheath for attaching to web gear and backpacks

Andy
I would go for a chest sheath or shoulder rig thingy. That would be great because I don't like carrying knives On my belt.
Thanks

I largely agree with Lewis in terms of position. I'd stick with kydex definitely with possibly the Tec Lok attachment, which is readily accessible by both maker and consumer alike.

When I had a Basic #5, I felt that a thigh sheath would be pretty good as well as the shoulder rig.

Hey Guys....

How about something like this ???

busse7.jpg

This is a multi carry High Ride rig that will allow Inside/Outside, Right/Left 45 degree Cant and also Horizontal if you wish...

Nice and sleek with Excellent retention.
The Busse is a Great knife for synthetic sheaths...

Well, i've got a shoulder rig for a BM on order from Dave at Busse combat, although i haven't heard anything about it for a while. I like shoulder rigs, and also USD rigging sheaths. Especially if they will fit on my pack

Eric, that looks nice.
Is the sheath 'symetrical'? Does it look the same on the other side. If it does that's the type of sheath I'm talking about. Heck, that's the type I'm wearing right now.

Strabs and Eric have an idea of what I would like to see. Another option would be the ability to use the sheath in a "standard drop" configuration, with the knife hanging a bit lower relative to the belt, with the option of either moving the belt loop (or turning it "upside down"), to wear the sheath in a higher-rise location.

One of my last posts was about 1 sheath with 2 knives. This post is about 1 knife with 2 sheaths! The MS and the BA (discontinued) need a kydex pouch sheath PLUS a kydex IWB (with loop No clip!)This way the knife can be carried in the same position while being concealed or in plain view!

It is all Greek to me

Just want to say that best impregnated leather sheaths are every bit as good as kydex. Except in the wettest/saltiest conditions, they do take the abuse. They are quiet and less gritty. The belt loops self adjust to the body.

I do like kydex, so long as the rivets are up to it. I have pulled some out before (helmet hanger).

I have yet seen a cordura/kydex inserted sheath that I liked. Though I have not looked very hard.

Attachment is the big question. Belt sizes: width and thickness. The military stable belt, webbing order belt, dress belt, gun belt (thick), jean belt and chino are all different sizes. Most sheath belt loops cater for either large or small. It is a real bind when they do not match.
Like pistol extended mags, I do like horizontal carry, front left, for medium folders, but more often live without.
Belt carry, a seven inch fixed is about all I can stand. Longer are attached to a day sack or bergan.
I had a shoulder rig for my Master Tanto, but that was very specialised.

My priority list:
1.Protection, from the blade.
2.Security, so you don't lose it.
3.Flexability, where it can be carried.
4.On/Off ability.
5.Firm hold for the draw and replacing.

How about a kydex sheath, with an adjustable outer sheath of ballistic nylon. There could be several outer sheath options given: plain, DPM, with piggy back pouch, carry angles etc.

Kydex lined Cordura in a tactical rig "ie"drop sheath for thigh carry, for the prople who backpack often to drop the knife below the waist belt of the pack to allow quick access and comfortable carry.

Andy, I have a sheath on order from Normark like the picture. I will probably cover it with a good grade of leather that has a piggyback sheath for a leatherman wave or for a F1 Fallkniven.
I would love to see a shoulder rig for the BM or my basic #7. I preferr horizontal carry for smaller knives and folders.

Humility is that attribute that when you discover you have it .....you have lost it.
