Custom commissions: how long of a wait is too long?

Just wanted to say that's an upstanding and respectful apology. Kudos, man, eating crow is friggin' awful and that's the way to handle it when you have to.

I don't even want to post the email he sent in response to my first one. He was really apologetic, rightfully stated that he didn't know I was hoping to have it soon, and offered to start on mine right away... I felt physically ill with guilt. Literally physically ill. I had to sit down and muddle in it for a bit before I could type that email.

(Edit: Added the following)

I mean, I just ambushed the guy with YOU HAVE FAILED, OUR BUSINESS IS CONCLUDED, GOOD DAY SIR

I was "that guy" at him. That's not a good guy to be. I work retail FFS - one would think I would have known better than to throw a little tantrum like that.

Not to veer too far into cliché, but screwing up and being impatient is something we all do, how you handle it afterwards is what reflects on your character. Given that, I'd say you're good to go.

You're a stand up guy. Kudos to you. I apologize if my first post came off as rude or excessive.

We need more men in this world who aren't afraid to admit too mistakes, and try their best to make good on that mistake.

Again kudos, I hope your knife comes out perfect.
