Custom CS Trailmaster Handle

It looks very nice. I think the Trailmaster and Recon Scout are some of the best looking bowies ever produced.

Everyone has their likes and dislikes. That handle LOOKS very nice, but for a user, I much prefer the original Kraton to anything slippery.

Well I can tell you that this treatment is not inferior in the grip department wet or dry. I have put handles of various designs on at least twenty Trailmasters and nobody thinks they have had a loss in that area. Prior to making this type of mod I owned a CS Trailmaster called the Flight of the Intruder Bowie with a micarta handle smoother than the ones I make and I have used it extensively in the field, with no problems whatsoever. And the ones I have rehandled are better in grip due to design and finish. The kraton is slicker when wet than micarta.

I also have an Intruder Bowie from the early nineties, and I really enjoy using it. I agree with vjb.knife, micarta is WAY better than kraton. I have a 1987 CS Tanto, the kraton handle literally came loose and became mushy just sitting in a drawer, with no use at all.

I ran across this thread looking for a member modified trailmaster with a stag handle and birdshead pommel or it may have been stacked leather. I think soup_monger did the mod but i am not sure. Can someone point me in the direction of that thread? I am considering doing a mod on mine and i am wanting something similar. Thanks, Scott

My 74 year old adopted step father put an elk horn handle on my trailmaster for me...
After the rubber handle just died.....

It has a nickel stainless pommel and the elk horn is from an elk he shot with his recurve he built back in 1947 when he was 13 years old....

My trailmaster was one of my favorite field use knives.... but now that it has had a make over and with the sentimental value on the way up there scale.... It is now in a display case next to my rifle case now....

So now I am looking for a recon scout??? is the sk5 just as good as the carbon V????

the carbonV holds a forever edge.... we have quartered half a dozen mooses.... about a hundred deer and hogs..... All it ever seems to need is a good stropping to bring it right back to a razor edge....

I would post a picture but do not know how....
