Recently I was able to pick up this custom modified Delica 4. The workmanship was top notch. I received it and was absolutely impressed with the modifications . I like this Delica more than any other one that I have.

This started out as a new Delica 4 with the following modifications:

  • Disassembled and all rough edges smoothed.
  • Blade reprofiled to remove drop point changing it to the more pointy Delica 1-3 style.
  • Blade sides buffed with maroon Scotch-Brite wheel to a nice satin finish after sandblasting.
  • Edge rehoned using a Norton IM-9 Fine India stone.
  • Small choil cut near tang for easier resharpening.
  • David Boye dent recut to appear more precise.
  • Major parts sandblasted with 320 grit media including all FRN parts (screws & D-Bolts left bright).
  • Black paint removed from clip and buffed to semi-matte finish.
  • "Flame blued" clip screws.
  • Two extra bronze washers added at blade pivot to prevent rub marks.

Here's the end result.

Here one more for a comparison with a standard Delica D4 (top).

Lovin the clip, plus the rest of it. No chance of getting it fully flat ground? Nice job anyways.

Reminds me of how guys will trick out their 1911s with "match grade" barrels, extended thumb safeties, magwells and so forth. Very nice.

Super nice. I like how the bead blast makes the FRN looks less "plasticky". Did the BB add to the traction on the handle any? Not that it needed it of course . . .

The FRN handle isn't as shiny and the finish is matte being a little more smoother. It feels more comfortable as the standard FRN feels rough/gritty. Picture below shows the custom Delica and a new standard D4 (top) for comparison. You can see how much smoother the FRN is in the flat areas where the clip mounts, logo and edges. The jimping is still there and quite functional too. Also, you can see the top part of the blade was ground down a little to make for the Delica 1-3 style tip thus appearing as if it's sitting deeper in the handle.
