Custom Damascus knife quality question

The price of this one should have been a "red flag". I don't know anyone skilled enough to make their own Damascus who will sell for that price. Also, the grind on the blade would lead you to believe that the man bought the blade, probably cheaply.

You will find that with custom knives, most times you get what you pay for.

Not entirely true. Granted this is much smaller but it was made by a Journeyman Smith and cost right around $200 including the dangler.

I would return it.

I'm really holding back a lot of words right now just thinking about it.

What your girlfriend bought for you is not what the knifemaker made, you said it looks like lower quality then the rest of his knifes, I don't know what the rest of his knifes are like, but it seems like thats not what you got.

Are the sides of the handle flat? I guess you did ask for opinions, I don't have anything nice to say.

If that nut on the end of the tang in the picture is what actually came with the knife, I don't know. I'm mad.

I found its brother on fleabay.
Same style choil, guards, damascus, sheath...
Can't post a link but just for general info, it's got just over a day left and the current bid is 99 cents.

Thanks guys for all the opinions on the knife. I got ahold of someone else that ordered from him and he identified him as a fraud as well. Looks like a bad situation. Trying to expose this guy before he can rip more people off. In the future I will definitely use this site before buying another knife. Just sick to my stomach, I Coonhunt and was going to carry this knife in the timber with me but knowing what I know now not a chance of that happening. I have contacted the man she got the knife from and he will not respond to me go figure...

After Christmas I will discuss it with her she literally just gave it to me last night so I don't want to ruin the moment lol. I'm sure she gave him a card which is sketchy considering he could use it again in the future. Don't trust anyone that would do that

It's now just over seven bucks...

So I told her about it last night and it was a short conversation. She didn't believe the quality of the knife was garbage because it looked beefy to her lol. I just let it go, couldn't tell the truth about the knife without running down her Christmas gift.

Yup, sadly everything about that knife SCREAMS Pakistan made.

This doesn't mean it's bad quality per se. But it was definitely not made by the man you bought it from.

Considering the man wasn't honest I'd name him in the feedback forums and leave it at that. I don't know if I'd want to pursue it further than that considering your lady friend's feeling on the matter.

However like already said by someone else, head over free makers market and find yourself something nice there. Plenty of very nice offerings from people who ARE honest about their product.

^^^ This. Sometimes there is a difference between what's correct and what's right. That knife will cut open boxes and a myriad of other things with a constant attention to its edge. She's a sweetheart and really wanted to please you. $225 for a single knife is a substantial gift from a newbie.

Tell her we said it's wonderful. :)

Welcome. Be well.

I'd just keep it and beat the Hell out of it. There's no better time than now that you own it. Who knows it may be tougher than folks think. I used to coon hunt with my dad for many years when I was younger and had a lot of fun. I guess you could tie the dogs up and wrestle that big boar coon with that big knife and see how well it works. :D

Lol that would be one heck of a fight!! Haha. Yeah I'm going to carry it and use it, see what happens. She is a great woman and it's the thought that counts so it will get some use for sure. I will start looking for another handmade knife in the forums as I really do appreciate quality handmade knives. Thanks for all the advice and feedback :-)

Tough spot to be in.
No good time/way to tell someone the gift they got ou is bunk when the idea BEHIND the gift is fantastic.

You should share his Facebook name here and we could all flame him for ripping off the unknowing/unsuspecting.
That'd be in the Christmas spirit :-)

I had a Paki "bullet" knife my sister gave me. It was a tank and kept a good edge, it was my car knife. When I was carjacked, the jackers took it (why they took my maps too...?) so it must have been premium knife :)

Sorry maybe it is micarta just looked 100% different than what he showed. It's alright if it is micarta that will make me happier lol! I'm gonna wear it maybe I'll tackle a cougar with it
