Custom Demko AD-10 incoming [New Pics and Mini Review in the 1st Post]

Being completely honest here and it's not because Andrew can see the thread, it doesn't bother me in the least.

I kinda figured or you would have brought it up already. With that said, I don't want to derail your thread further. It's still an uber awesome knife and one I have on my list to get in the coming months. I just will request for mine not to have jimping.

Andrew can still make a wicked framelock and he isn't limited per year on those.

No worries, I like an honest dialogue. Yeah, the types of things that get to me are uncentered blades, unnecessary play, clear issues with the grind, etc. The jimping in this case seems more like a distinct character mark to me. I can understand how it may bother others though.

What was the wait time if I can ask?
I contacted Andrew around Christmas and he told me it would be around a year. Plenty of time for me to decide exactly what I want and save up for it. I bet it might be a little longer than that now.

That's a sweet looking folder Kaizen. I'm dying to get mine. I need to email Mr. D and ask for a couple changes on mine. My opinion is that for a knife with the build quality of this, it's well worth the money.

When I first placed the order, the base price was $450 +$30 for a titanium backspacer. So this one cost me $480, but those prices obviously may change at Andrew's discretion. His email is:

demkoknives [at] yahoo [dot]com

My understanding is that he is limited to how many knives with Tri-Ad locks he can do in a given year because of some deal he has with Cold Steel. And based on posts in this forum, I'd guess that his order list is backing up. I'd put in an order asap lest ye end up dealing with secondary market prices and a highly limited supply.

I just emailed him - put my order in. Here's info for everyone:

Hi, thanks for your interest, The standard AD-10 is $510 and has:
.200" cpm 154 blade
.050" ti liners
.125" textured g-10 scales
g-10 back spacer

Upgrades: All $30 each
carbon fiber scales
thick ti liners
contoured g-10 scales
ti back spacer.

Delivery time is 11-12 months. Payment will be due before shipping by pay pal or money order

I went with thick liners, contour g10, ti backspacer. I also asked him about blade thickness vs. EDC cutting, and was looking for suggestions..

I didn't ask for any colors or anything as I wasn't sure what to go with - This is going to be an expensive piece and I didn't want to get to strange. Honestly...I'd love to get purple G10 but that may be way rediculous.... but its a favorite color of mine....might be a nice talking piece...

That time frame might work in my favor. I'll have to see how long out my custom DDR is first before I can consider a triad Demko. I told myself the DDR would be my one and only custom folder, but I'll have to make my last custom a Demko. Something about over-engineering just appeals to me.

Could not agree more. I'm also waiting to get a DDR custom. I want this one first then it's my AXD 3D ;)

No clue, but I think I saw some explanation about it on another AD-10 thread. I don't think it has any functional purpose.

I saw a post by Andrew on another forum I believe (or maybe it was older but on here) asking the same question. He said that when his backer, the man at CS that signs the checks so to speak goes to africa and hard HARD!! uses his knives he absolutely cannot have them fail so he has a pin that fits in those holes as an extra cautionary step.

(I'm thinking its like the extrema ratio RAO...)

Sorry, I suck at filing in a straight line

Join the club. Its okay to call it artistic license! I do anyway!:D

Congrats on the custom from Andrew my friend. No tougher folder around in my opinion.:thumbup:

That's a beauty and means I must be next! Andrew said mine should probably ship next week...I'm really stoked about it, they're real beasts.

I'm waiting for someone to post a hard use picture of one in action. They're so nice everybody probably wants to keep them like new. I'm saying in advance that I'm going to use the heck out of mine... Well, I'll whittle balsa with it for sure. :D

darn, this will now force me to make yet another jig for a filing fixture, oh well

I have the same issue every once in a while with the checkering file. I think a file guide would be tough to use in the location of this jimping. Would love see what type of fixture/guide you come up with.

BTW can't wait to get mine (AD-10) sometime towards the end of the year.

Hey Andrew, can you confirm this post? If so, you got any pins for these?

No, the ones I do for LT are a larger size the AD-10 hole is .156 dia, I don't think the quick release pins are available this size. The reason I do them for LT is often times prototypes leave the shop with little more than spine whacks for him to "field test". And "field test" may include stabbing to death boars and well, anything else on four legs.

That's one helluva field test!

Why is this on page 2? :D
Kaizen1, you better make sure to take even more nice pictures of this knife as soon as you get it!!!!!

Congrats on the knife. My second will be ready in about 11 months - .100Ti liners, Ti backspacer, CF, M390. The first one just wasn't beefy enough :D:D
