I like the design for the reason that it would work for me
Thanks for all of the advice. I'll come back to this posting eventually when I start fabricating and start a new thread from there so people can follow my progress. It should be fun. And Marcinek, I just might convert you on this one, who knows.
I did get one supporter! I dont know yet if you're just humoring me or not. But I am curious what you like about it. To me its all the great things about a medium sized knife, and with the longer handle theres no way it wont at least chop a bit better.I like the design for the reason that it would work for me
I say make it , nobody knows what will work for you better then you. If it turns out it's now what you thought you still have the experience that will serve you well when you make the next one.

It looks a lot like the JK knives Knatchet. Pretty slick in my book.
Post it over in the knifemaker forum.I'm not sure about the balance.
Eddie
so, I saw the JK Knatchet, and its actually kinda scary the similarities and it somewhat affirms my own design which is cool. I wanted to repost this in the knife makers forum but wasnt sure what the procedure on that is since I'm not a registered knifemaker. maybe i could post it in the custom knife thread? hmm..
I agree that there are some similarities... BUT... look at the picture below. The Knachet has a MUCH wider blade, a much higher blade grind, and a shorter handle than you're planning. It is wide enough to have significant weight behind the head, while having a full height flat grind allows it to bite much deeper than yours will.
His knife is STILL marginal in most regards, but is significantly better for what you're looking to do than the small blade you have drawn up will ever be
You can post the pic over there and get some good advice. No harm no foul.
