I've been using janky versions of this for about a decade at hunting camp and for group hikes. Cuts my need to backflush my filter by about 75% (and back flushes are much faster).
I designed this myself (took a couple weeks and about 20 different versions). These are extremely tough, 100% solid parts made of very tough PETG.

Height is 1.5", weight is 0.7oz
2 cotton balls will last you a week of filtration then some.

There are 2 Purchase Options (Paypal works best, email me please)
Inline Prefilter and Silicone Gasket: $20 shipped in USA
Inline Prefilter and Silicone Gasket + 4ft Silicone 1/4"ID x 5/16"OD Tube: $25 shipped in USA

The best filter material I have found is about 1/3 of a cotton ball. I have also used coffee filters, cloth, linen, etc.
Threads are standard Pop-bottle threads modeled specifically after the CNOC bag and Sawyer Squeeze as these are the most popular option. Most other "soda bottle" threads work great too.
The gasket and hose are both food-safe silicone. The hose is an ultralight version that is half the wall thickness of the standard 1/4"x3/8" tube.
The 2 hooks on the prefilter hold the hose (the smaller size I'm selling) in storage and also can be used to "clamp" the hose to turn off the flow and keep the clean end out of the dirt.
