Custom desktop display/traditional knife

Beautiful woodwork.

I do have a stupid question though, what's the oil for?

Not a stupid question at all! Slipjoints require oil on the joints. Many old vintage knives no longer have "walk and talk" for lack of oil. On a slipjoint you have no bearings, just two surfaces(the blade tang and back spring) that slide against each other ,with a fair amount of pressure, as you open and close the blade.

Remember, "oil is the life of the knife" !

Ken, this is a tremendous set. I'm not sure if i've seen pictures of the knife but without doubt it is the amazing highlight of the display. The opportunity to potentially buy this set, or one of the other folders you will have available, is more than enough reason to make the trip to Atlanta.
I'm a bit despondant that family obligations don't allow me to go. Family first, but knives come a close second. Very, very close second when it comes to this set.

Thanks Roland, and understand "family" comes first!

Here is a picture of the knife open.

Hi Ken!

A beautiful display and a great looking knife, too :)

I really like the look of that display. Nice woodpolishing at the display.

KInd regards

Thanks Ken, and for the youtube link as well. Luckily the Horsemans knife is spoken for, or there would be mayhem at your Blade table. I'm sure you will quite a crowd and many friends coming by.
Please have a safe trip.

Thanks for answering the oil question. Never seen a dedicated oil dispenser for pocketknives, even though I own hundreds of the things. :)

"There's no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid people." :o

Absolutely stunning! If I were to change anything, I would raise the knife well some, to show off the knife better. It's such an amazing piece, I would want to see more of it.

Thanks for sharing your work.

That is awesome, especially with the inlays.

As a mechanical watch nut, I'd go for a windup clock as Dan57 mentioned, there are lots of handwind movements available nowadays that could be adapted, like the Unitas 6497/98 and clones as well as Molnija pocket watches.

Oh, and I love the knife too!

Great set. The knife is crazy and I can't imagine making one like that. How long did it take to make the knife?

Thanks again for the comments and suggestions guys!

I really did not keep track of the hours on the knife. Not sure I want to know!
