Custom DF adn SS4 sheath by Leatherface

i believe dwayne does dabble in kydex, his fusion sheaths (correct name?) have kydex liners, no?

Well, sorta. The kydex he uses is not shaped to the knife and is sandwiched between two pieces of leather. It's basically just a stiffener for the sheath.

Yup they sure do!!!

AND it is a design characteristic that I HAVENT ripped off yet..Errr but I plan on doing that on the 13th!!! ;)

lol!! :D You da ripper man! :p

Ted's correct, I only sandwich the kydex, I dont mold it. I'd probably burn my fingers FUBAR. :o

I'm simply a dabbler in things plastic, your da plastic man in the doghouse. :D

is the kydex sandwiched for durability? or is there a liner covering the whole blade?

The way I do it is there, hmmm, lemme see if this explains it......

Starting with the blade, theres leather, kydex, and leather on top of that. The kydex is cut to the shape of the sheath body, two pieces front and back, and left flat. So, theres six layers. :)

The kydex is there because I saw a need for the best of both worlds. People want the strength of kydex, but they also wanted the natural beauty of leather. Lots of trial and error getting the kydex to effectively bond to the leather, and I'm still working on its design and function. Each one is getting a little better than the last.

ok, soooo......

does the kydex surround the blade? or are the layers only around the edges?

never mind, i think i got it.

from the bottom: leather-kydex-leather--knife--leather-kydex-leather. right?

Yep, that's it. This is from my AK sheath Dwayne made me. The blade doesn't touch anything but leather.

I use Kydex as a welt on the big ones now...They are cut just like a leather welt...

LOVE that sheath TEd!!!!
