Custom fixed blade bargains for less than $400

Man, after readin this thread, I'm curling my tail up between my legs and hidin out in the closet! It dumbfounds me how so many big timers, one not mentioned here is Allen Blade, continue to make fantastic knives for the same price as newbies like me.

My word Mr. Lamey, that sure is a purty knife. I may be contacting you soon for something a little smaller...maybe one of those hornets in 3V...drooling on my keyboard...must stop...thinking of Janet Reno.

L6Steel is right. While Allen Blade is known for field grade finish knives (at least that's my experience) at affordable prices, he is certainly capable of making a 'dress' knife. So far, I've had three of his knives and, they are all very good knives at bargain prices. I can't wait for the others to show up

Matt and Allen, two of my favorites. on Friday I recieved a beautiful fighter from
Matt. Flat grind Curly Maple scales. Matt is
mortissing the tang so these are extremely light. Contact Matt soon the list is getting
longer every day.

I have several knives on order with Allen Blade, only one of which is a stock offering.
Allen is going to be working with S90V and
CPM3V, and loves to do customs. Once again call soon. I spoke with him yesterday and he's busy. Order some upgrades to his basic
and you'll not be disappointed.

George, I think the point being made is not only that you can buy knives for under $400, but that you can buy absolutely stunning knives for under $400. Heck, you could set the price-point at $200, or even lower, and get a whole list of nice knives. $400 is a nice number for me, because it's the very top of what I might pay for a knife, so it's nice to see that those who can and do buy more expensive knives also buy cheaper (relatively) ones that make them happy. That's one of the nice things about this hobby. There's something in every price range.

Edit because I wasn't looking and I called George Sid for some reason.

I think $400US was chosen for two reasons. From my experience, $400 and up is where you see makers like Kit Carson and Bob Terzuola. Secondly, as mentioned in another thread that has seen a lot of activity, a relatively unknown maker with at best avarage skills, is selling knives at this price point.

You can certainly buy a very good knife for much less $400 which is what this thread is showing. If you are going to spend $400 and up, you should understand what you are paying for and why.

Finally, I'll plug George Tichbourne and Allen Blade for both providing a very good knife to the user at a pricepoint that is within reach of most people.

I just ordered, and should receive Monday, a MIKE SNODY:KOZUKA, 3 ½" chisel ground, Tanto style blade, black Same (ray skin), covered in traditional style cord wrapped handle (resined), A-2, satin finish, multi-position kydex sheath.

All for $180 through Les Robertson. I really can't wait to get it.

The next issue of Tactical Knives will feature an article on custom hunters under $100. All of the knives shown were found at the 2000 Guild show and were made by Guild members. $90 will still by you a knife that is both very nice looking and totally functional.

Steve brings up a very good point. At the Guild show i remember seeing a table full of 4-5" hunter/utilities, all had desert ironwood handles, and leather sheath, all were ATS 34, and were finished quite well. All were $90-$100, problem is i cant remember the maker to give him some credit here in this post.

I just picked up a little drop point hunter from John Sevey. It's ATS 34 with black palm handles, the quality of the fit and finish is outstanding, with a nice leather sheath it was well under $200.
