I'm looking for someone who will help me experiment. I have some M2 HSS stock (power hacksaw blades) at 65 - 66 HRC. I would like to make a 3 - 4 Opinel blades out of this stock. How hard would this be to grind, and if you are willing to do it, please shoot me a pm and we'll discuss prices, thanks!

First, post this in 'services wanted' section for a better response. More appropriate section to ask. We don't like to talk mods/sales/etc here. More for all around knifemaking questions for and by the makers themselves.

Would have to ask why this steel? Some sentimental attachment to it?
'HSS' works good in tool bit selections because it has a thick cross-section. Typically speaking, most HSS doesn't do well with a very keen edge like a knife. They need a 'backbone' to avoid abrading. There are a few which have crossed over so to speak, but I would argue with minimal success above any already present steel choice. As far as the starting RC which to the unlearned sounds impressive, any steel I worked at length would be annealed to start with making their beginning RC moot. I would simply comment that a high hardness number equals hard to sharpen and brittle, and doesn't automatically mean it is better than some steel at a lower number...

The only real difference between any HSS and some comparable typical blade steel is the ability to withstand higher working temps, hence to not temper themselves while doing work. I'd suggest, first off, finding a different comparable (or likely better) steel for a blade. HSS was specifically designed by the metallurgists to be a high speed steel for use as such. Equally brilliant metallurgists have designed wonderful blade steels to be used as blade steel.

Cheers. Good luck with your search. I'd offer help but just not down my particular alley.
