Just got this sweet little Otha Necker as seen here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=464964

I was wondering if there is anyone out there that could make me a couple of handle scales to match the predrilled holes in the handle. Im looking for a scale for either side in either a textured g-10 or micarta(if it can be made this thin) no thicker than the spine of the knife(so take the knife and triple its width where the scales are)

(if this isnt the right place mods please move it :) )

The material is not available that thin but could easily be thinned to fit. As for fitting the pin layout, that wouldn't be a problem. Do you want the handles permanent, i.e. epoxied on, or removable, i.d. using some sort of screw? The latter might be difficult given the thin nature of the scales you want.

To be honest, if you have a minimal amount of equipment (4x36 or similar belt sander, drill press, and a dremel tool) this is something you could do yourself. You can buy the micarta or g10 at just about any knifemaking supply house. (North Coast Knives, Jantz Supply, Texas Knifemaker Supply are all ones I've dealt with very succesfully). You would need brass or steel pins to fit the holes in the handle. If you don't mind brass, you can get those at ace hardware. If this is something you're interested in doing yourself let me know and I can walk you through it. The grooves on the back of the handle would be the only thing to create a problem but there are ways around that.

I would offer to do it but am a newbie to knifemaking having done a few kit knives, which is basically what this would be putting handles on a predone knife blade, and a couple of sole-authorship knives where I shaped the blade, heat treated and everything.

Hope this helps.

I myself live in a very small(think walk in closet) studio apartment and was hoping to find a custom maker that could do something like this for me. :o

G10 (and FR4) is sold at McMasterCarr in these kind of thicknesses. Their color selection is small, but the thickness selection is great.

if we new where you lived im sure a maker near you that wouldnt mind helping you with it or for a small fee would actually do it for you.
