I'm in the process of having a custom handle put onto a Camp Tramp. When I have pictures, I will post them. As to the sheath, the Battle Rat comes with a nylon/kydex military style sheath.
A full-enclosing micarta handle with integral guard. I had to custom order scale pieces that would be thick enough to allow inletting (for the hidden tang) and still be a good sized handle, particularly for my big hands. Gary over at Fibermascus hooked me up. I am anxiously awaiting it--Jay Maines is doing the work for me, but he's a bit backed up on orders, so it's taking longer than anticipated.
That's kind of funny because I've been wanting to get a Battle Rat handle on some of my other knives. I believe that Resiprene C is one of the greatest handle materials ever. It is comfortable, shock absorbent and holds up real well against rain, mud and other slop. All I got to do now is find a way to slip a Steel Heart into the handle department at SWRK and I'd have the perfect knife for the woods.
Will do, Tri-Puppy! I'm sorry, but I really do like that name. You can blame Bill Siegle...
I do want to say that I'm not having it rehandled for lack of liking the standard handles. My main user knife will still remain a resiprine-c CT. It is out of admiration for the Tramp that I'm having a kind of unique one done up.
LOL I know I know...I got this project started back in March and hoped I'd beat the Blade show---I had a feeling the Swamp was going to pull something like this. Well, mine is a hidden tang micarta, so there.
Oh I knew that Thor, it was mock-defensiveness. I actually laughed out loud when I first saw the new line--not that I didn't like it, but because I knew how much less of a splash my micarta Rat was going to make. It'll still be neat, and I'll post pics when I have them.
Thor,
Probably a little better, though the micarta is heavier than the resiprine it's replacing, so there probably won't be as much difference as there would between a regular Tramp and a CTT. I have accepted the fact that this is pretty much a fetish customization.
