Custom, handmade, benchmade, handforged, cnc .........

Max,

i agree 100%! screw all these silly terms and all the waste of time arguments that goes with them. i am just a knifemaker/engraver too, nothing more nothing less.
if people still want to waste time arguing about some stupid definition then let them but they are just words and everyone sees them different.
custom, handmade, benchmade, dickmade, machinemade, alienmade, whocares?????

Maxie my bruddah, you may just have dropped a bomb on the semantics crowd. Poor devils. Finally a definition I can live with.

A hole digger digs holes. A computer programmer programs computers. So now all of a sudden why should a guy who makes knives not be called a knife maker? Custom, handmade, baked, fried or julienne, what is the difference here? Did the guy make a knife or didn't he? Screw the sub-catagories. If the answer is "yes", then face it... he is a KNIFE MAKER.

You wanna make knives, Max? You make 'em. You let whoever else call you what they want but I will forever call you two things.

Knife maker and friend.

Thanks TIM. I appreciate your thoughts. Folks like you will help to define our trade. We are what we are.

Max, your right. Knifemakers. Tree, stump, I was close. Now you do remember dontcha that I was going to get a piece of crotch burl out of that. :-)You fellas out there, Max knows I wasn,t calling him a troll. I always thought I was a laid back unassuming type person till I met Max. He makes me look uptight. mw

Hey Mike, this here is one of them crotchless walnut stumps I guess. But, yessiree Bob, I mean Mike, when I get this stump milled I'll send you some of the crotchiest looking burly stuff I can find. I cut some of the gnarly roots up checking the burl on em and wasn't very encouraged. Of course, seeing that I have no idea what the heck I'm doing that's not surprising.

However, in the mean time I have some other stuff you may be interested in old buddy. Wanna get some trading going? Trading is good.

HI Max Ole Bud, you are quite right in a practical, daily living sort of way. Now the obsessive analytical hair splitters(like myself) will lay awake at night worrying about this until we come up with the perfect elegantly worded definitions. I sure hope it dont interfere with my knifemaking.:) Hey, listen to this. when I first moved here, and was just getting around a bit, I told a man in a hardware store I was a KNIFEMAKER. He looked at me with a blank look and said, "what does a knifemaker DO?" Soooooo never underestimate the gross stupidity of our mind numbed homogenized-micro-wave-controlled- drone-consumer-fellow citizens.

I will always use whatever means possible and available to produce the highest qaulity products.I will never Ignore CNC.It is are friend. In the end Quality is all that matters. This is were I stand and I won't change my ways to get in to any organization no matter what kind stipulations they have.Do what you know.If you don't know it, don't do it.
Regards
Brad

If you don't know it, don't do it.

Brad Duncan's words to live by! Is this the same Brad Duncan who makes those killer folders? I would never know it from your posts. Snody did you read his posts BEFORE you shared your sharpfusion process with him? :p
