Custom Hangle (Gemstone Coloration)

Hey friends,

I'm just a beginner enthusiast when it comes to knives, but I do have a few questions.
There are certain materials that handles can be made off, but is there such a thing as decorative handles (that mimics gemstone coloration for example)?

A friend of mine is getting married on the next couple months, and his soon-to-be-wife asked me for advice in choosing a gift. She said "It must be larimar (a rare gemstone) related, since we are getting married at the Dominican Republic."

So, could she custom order a knife which the handle looks like larimar stone?

Hi David,

I have seen handles made from jade, lapis, agate, rhodocrosite, turquoise, quartz with gold veins and a few others. For the most part I have seen them on higher end daggers and what could be termed as "art knives".

There are a few companies and individuals that rehandle production knives in stone and minerals.

As far as other materials that are similar now days anything that can be shaped, drilled and is sturdy and stable could probably fit the bill.

There are makers on this forum that might have more specific Ideas and information.

Mike Alsdorf makes custom slipjoints with stone inlays. His work is absolutely amazing! I have one with pearl inlays and it's one of my favorites.

Check out his work and give him a call, he might be able to make something with larimar.
