I'm two weeks into making a custom hollow handle survival knife. The blade and the handle are not one piece. It is traditional style. My question is what is the best way to connect the blade to the handle to make it as tight and as strong as possible? Also what can I use to waterproof where the blade and the guard meet? I have not made the blade yet so any advice will help. Thanks

I am not a knife maker, but if I were doing what you are thinking of, I would thread the tang and make the handle have the same size screw, simply screw handle down tight onto guard. Use sealer on thread, just like you would a water pipe. Dope or Teflon, either one will provide a water tight seal. Other end could utilize an O Ring built into the Cap Screw.
Good Luck
James

I have a partially done hollow handle that is ready to be finished. It is John Deere control shaft (5160). Right now I do not have any plans for it. The pommel allready is threaded and has an internal cavity with a threaded cap and spout. The shoulder radiuses have allready been cleaned up.

Brent,You should patent that idea :p:eek: Sorry I couldnt help it.That is the best looking design for a hollow handle

Thanks! My neighbor wanted me to make one for him but I am way too busy. This one is a kit looking for a maker.

Thanks for the tip James. That sounds like a good idea. I am still exploring my options. I just finished the prints for another design.
