This is a Mike Thourot Custom made with Busse Infi steel. Blade about 41/2 inches long, High polish satin finish, White micarta scales 91/2 inches overall. Condition is unused. I've decided this is just too nice to use. No sheath. $465.00 shipped CONUS. Pictures available by e mail. TRADED!

Cool knife!

Can you tell us how the maker acquired the INFI and how it was heat treated? I was under the impression that INFI was not made available to other knifemakers, and that much of its high performance is derived from the proprietary heat treating process.

Either way, it's a very nice knife and obviously a rare opportunity to acquire an INFI knife that doesn't look like a Busse.

I was advised that this blade has the Busse heat treatment. Mike Thourot has designed at least one Swamp Rat knife according to their site and I would imagine that connection is how he obtained the Infi.

I have handled this knife and it is SWEET! Remember that Mike was the guy who made the "Piano Keys" from last year. I would bet that Jerry slips him scraps under the table....

Mike and Jerry are often visitors to each other's shops, and there has been a LOT of collaboration, both on knives and killing off John Barleycorn....

I saw a couple of examples of Mike's artistry in INFI at Blade this year. Schweeet...

it may be worth giving a few specs on the knife (i have a custom on order that is choiless, otherwise i would be soooorely tempted by this... heck, im still tempted.)

what is the blade thickness?
is it hollow ground?
can you give a micrometer reading of the steel thickness right behind the cutting edge?

i ask these things because that looks like one of the few busse's that has a hollow ground thin edge.

likewise, its worth asking: does this come with the busse warranty, or with mike thourots warranty (whatever that may be, if any)?

Seth; Keep in mind that I have nothing like a micrometer but the blade appears to be a bit more than 1/8 inch thick. It is hollow ground and appears thinner edged than any of my Busses. Also this is not a Busse but a Thourot Custom made with Busse treated Infi steel. Hope this helps.
