I bought this in the Philippines when I was a kid about 20 years ago. I can't remember the makers name (that's what 20 years will do to ya), but this guy had some talent! Not only are the grinds near perfect, it is made in stainless, which was almost unheard of back then with all the old scrap spring steel they had laying around. It wasn't as expensive as it probably should have been given the skill of the maker, but it wasn't a cheap piece either. I wish I could go back in time and buy the full set but I couldn't afford them all back then. I apologize in advance for the lousy picture. My cell phone is all I have and it's not even good by cell phone standards. If you would like some proper pictures, let me know and be specific about what you want to see. I can borrow my mom's digital camera, but it may take a day or two to get it from her.
Brief description:
Solid brass guard and pommel cap, copper wrap at the base of the blade, wood handle and scabbard wrapped with I believe nylon material over a satin red fabric(I've forgotten all the technical Japanese names as well). I'm looking to get $175 (was $250) or possibly trade. There are a few scuffs on the blade and a longer VERY light scratch along one slide of the blade, only visible at the correct angle. There are also some dark spots that have developed over it's life, the worst of which is on the spine just above the copper; NO PITTING or anything that couldn't be removed safely. The brass is a bit dull, and the copper is tarnishing some as well. It could easily made to sparkle with some powder dish-washing detergent or metal polishers and a few minutes with a buffing cloth. It is 20+ years old, so I've left it as-is. The blade is has an edge, but it's not incredibly sharp. Again, I've left it as-is, so you can do with as you please. It would make either a great display piece, or fully functional live blade. Any other questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for reading! I've tried to be as picky as possible describing the condition.
