Custom Knife Maker: What moves you?

Jerry and Sing: I feel like that kid will be Okay. He just had something about him. He took care of his younger siblings and was probably more of a parent than his parents.
We used to talk all the time, and he was very smart for his age, and knew right from wrong.
He used to sneak away from his house just to come and sweep the shop floor!!
I know things and situations have an effect on people but this kid just seemed to rise above it all.
They say when your a young "you can be anything you want to be". This kid really could, I guess thats why I liked having him around. What a shame his parents squandered the chance to be a good parent to a child like that. My son is now 10 years old and I cherish everyday of being his dad. Its a shame more people dont have that attitude these days, we would all be a hell of a lot better off if they would..

Dear Trace,
What you did for that kid was a real decent thing. In a way, you have probably saved his life and thereon when he grows up, he will remember what you did for him, and he goes on to save another like him.
Who knows, one of these days when you least expect it, someone like him will come around and make your day brighter and happier.

Like they say "what goes around comes around."
Just by reading your story, I too have learned something important. Thanks Trace.

Golok: I am glad you appreciated the story, I doubt anything I did "Saved" him, but I did what I thought was the right thing to do for a kid who was in a bad situation.
ANY decent person would have done the same.
And decent people should always try to help the lost children of this sad world.

And I didnt mean to Gloss over Jerry's sentiment, he is absolutely correct..
Kids nowadays that have a knife could ONLY be up to NO GOOD if you listen to the Social Engineers. Interest in tools and weapons by children now is FROWNED on heavily, and to them intereset is a sign of something WRONG!!!
You know there was a day, not long ago when kids carried shotguns, and knives to SCHOOL!!! They didnt bring them to KILL people, they were most likely going hunting after school.. The guns have ALWAYS been here, and before Columbine et all, most parents didnt see the need to lock them up, so they were readily available.. GUNS and WEAPONS are NOT the cause of crime, and its the young people we MUST get this point across too.. The Liberals have a campaign against us, its time we had one against them, MY son will know the truth, not what some damn Psych BS artist thinks is the truth..

what a strange and changing time we live in .

I carried a pocket knife every day of my childhood to school, and took a little Browning .22 takedown to the fourth grade as a show and tell piece to disassemble and reassemble and talk about the design of it (JM Browning was a genuius) with no screws to hold it together.

I like you am serious about teaching my children that the weapon is in your mind, and the implement that you hold in your hand is merely a tool for carrying ou the task.

On the other hand, I do in fact make weapons. The swords that have taken over my life are very real weapons, and that is my intent. Each and every one is the best weapon I can make it. That is a central part of making a good one, I think. It is all well and good that many of the people who buy them consider them as objects of art, that pleases me, and them. However, the primary intent is that of weapon, tool for a task, then beyond that, whatever the buyer wants it to be is fine with me.

Our society has evoved (or is it devolved?) into one that considers all of us that own weapons and maske them to be suspect. They are sheep, those who have this attitude. Sheep will continue to be preyed upon by those predators in the world who will do so, and they always will exist, and always have. Those of us who carry on the traditions of weapons making and usage are here to help the sheep, even if they do not like us. We are not sheep, we are goats (or whatever you want to call us the labels are irrelevent, really). It is a noble thing, to keep these "useless" skills alive. The line between civilization and anarchy is a thin one. Someone needs to carry the knowlege and the skills as insurance against that line being crossed.

"liberals" are mostly anything but liberal nowdays in modern america. They are those who would take away our rights to enjoy things that they consider "dangerous", because it is for our own good. Smoking, drinking, guns, knives, fast cars, all too dangerous for the common masses. It all boils down to the same arguement that Jefferson and Hamilton had in the 1780's whether or not we are smart enough to govern ourselves. An experiment still in progress.

Life is good, we live in the free-est time in the free-est place in the history of the world. Life is to be celebrated and enjoyed. Now go make a good knife, and buy a gun, and p**s off a "liberal" today. It'll make you feel good.

Jonathan! Nice to see you here at BFC. I'm glad you found us. I enjoyed meeting you at the NYC city show November.

To all, thank-you very much for sharing your thoughts on this topic. This is a very personal sort of thing, and I'm glad so many of you are willing to share your Purpose and Intent with the rest of us.
