My custom collection is getting larger, but as of yet, I have not purchased a knife for more than $625.00, which I payed for a beautiful dressed up Terzuola ATCF. Most of the customs that I have purchased are between the $400-$500 price range.

I will eventually spend in the $1000 and up price range, butI would not say they are art knives. It seems that there are a lot if great non-art knives in the price range by some makers who make excellent knives in the $400 to $500 market.

Not too bad! I guess I can tell my wife now!

Sheesh, I don't know what we are seeing here, whether hugh debt accumulation, or lots of people with incomes that allow them to spend that kind of money either in cash, or with very short-term payoffs.

I will not go into debt to any great degree for the sake of my family, and my darling wife shares this attitude thank God. If I do buy something more or less completely frivolous like a new knife [I am way beyond the "need it" level at this point], I have to be able to afford it right then (like my new [not quite here] Taz-made knife), or I have to be able to pay it off within a couple or maybe three months!

Over-all this limits my total just-for-fun spending (on what ever) to something like $500-$1200 per year with some years (like the last few) better than others. Since I like to use my knives, and like most of you enjoy working with a new one ever so often, I find I get much more pleasure out of the customs in the $100-$200 range. This year I spent about $750 on knives, and got 4 nice knives; one my second Seb, and 3 nice fixed blade customs.

I just bought my first custom knife, (used) for just under $400.00. I probably have $3000 worth of production knives, and I won't be buying many more of those (except maybe from William Henry). I think if you can buy 1 or 2 really NICE custom pieces a year you're much better off. My wife actually ordered a Fred Durio folder for me for Christmas, so she sees that bass-akward reasoning. (But the beaver coat I bought her did help)!
