Lot of money but may its history live on. I have no problem with wealthy folks investing in what's important to them.

I think that old style gold work is super cool. I love the style on the letters.

Am I the only one who thinks that handle looks a little massive compared to the blade?

The blade is a pretty standard Bowie style hunting knife blade that Russell, and others made available during the era. Here is what the Russell retail version of a similar blade and from the same era looked like -

Also the massiveness of the handle is just sort of something that happens with jeweler/Tiffany style knife and pistol handles of that era more often than not.

You'd think for that amount of $$ they could have polished up the blade a bit. You know..to make it look better.

Send it over. A few minutes on a buffer and it will be Kentucky mint!

Also, do you think it will hold up to throwing? Would this be appropriate for self defense?

I'm thinking of getting this knife for defense against bears. Maybe take the handle off and mount it on a spear haft.....
