Custom knife wanted?

madcap_magician madcap_magician Yes. It is. That particular knife is priced at $650-$700 which is way out of my price range. marthinus marthinus My knife is NOT the damasteel edition. The version I actually have is in plain 420hc, again, I have nothing against 420hc, it is a very good steel. However I don't see anything wrong with trying to get a custom that will suit me better. I started this thread to get advice on which maker(s) would be best to contact and to get advice on damascus steel since this would be my first custom AND my first knife in Damascus steel.

Best advice I can give is see if there are any makers locally in your area that you can visit and discuss the matter or go to a local knife show when that is possible.

Making a dive knife in carbon damascus is probably a poor idea. It will rust readily with exposure to salt water. Stainless damascus is expensive stuff and most of the places that make stainless damascus are specialty metallurgy companies like Damasteel in Sweden. Just the raw materials will be substantially expensive - an 8" bar of 1-1/2" x 1/8" Damasteel will be >$100 by itself, assuming you can get a bar that is pretty dimensionally close to what you want. Then dagger grinds are challenging to do because you need to do four symmetrical hollow grinds to get it.

Good luck!
