Les and Phil, I've given you an impression of myself that is laughable! Pressing my socks!!
Keeping my knives in order??!!
While I'm hardly a purist, ALL my white socks are stuffed in a drawer and I pick them out with little regard for matching! My knives are, indeed, in a wooden chest, but not as organized as you'd hope. Or me either!
Back on topic with a little outside perspective...
Two years ago after a WHOPPING drop in some inherited Tech-stock mutual funds I decided to pull out *some* of the remainder and "invest" in knives. I did this just as my passions and interest began to build and I knew VERY LITTLE about good knife investments. I simply 'Bought What I Liked'. Sadly the stocks, which have moved to a less aggressive fund are STILL losing value. (sound familiar?)
But.... Many of my knves, which may be less than investment quality and some will surely return less than I paid, will STILL be , for me, the best 'investment' I had ever made (besides my wife!
) For reasons that have little to do with the money. Friends, learning, passions--PRICELESS!
But if I look at the value of the monies I would have left in those funds instead of the knives, I'm pretty certain I'm still 'ahead'. Go figure. (only in this recession has this been possible)
I'm a poor investor, and somehow have become enrichened by it! I'm starting to get a clue, but I still BWIL. As most do. Hopefully what I LIKE is worthy.
Even worse, I'm putting off buying knives for knifemaking equipment. Now THAT'S risky!
