I know it's asking a lot(for a little),but it's done by some makers.Richard Edwards & David Farmer come to mind.Rich uses 1075 & Dave uses 1095,which is just fine with me.
$150 happens to be my limit on any knife,at this point.Maybe when the economy picks up & I'm making more $$,I'll consider more costly knives.Family first, hobbies second.

Can you recommend any other makers that produce quality, low cost knives?

I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,:)
John

Check out JK and Koyote knives as well as DPK. I have many Knives from JK and John builds nothing but tough, High Quality knives at very good prices. I love th Scandi's from Koyote knives as well. Both he and John are making great convex blades as well. Check out the Maker's for sale site here.

Thanks for your suggestions udtjim :)

There's also a lot of good, low cost stuff in the Himalayan Imports sub-forum.

Bryan Baker AKA Boisebman on the forums.

Loveless style fixed blades.

He does very good work and is still undervalued at this time. :)

Dan Koster makes lots of knives for less than $150, you just have to catch one of his sales on the Knifemaker For Sale area.

Knives are usually worth what you pay for them and your $150 knives will always be worth about that + or -. I can remember years ago I kept trying to get my customers to buy $300 Loveless knives, only maybe 1 out of 10 did so. Those Loveless knives are now worth $4-5,000 each.

Better to buy one kinfe than three or four so-so knives. The higher the quality the better they hold their value. I have always told those who asked that I collected for investment only Scagel, Loveless and Loveless/Johnson knives. I collect for pleasure knives that have spectactular handle material and great work.

Well, you can get a Jason Clark custom knife for around $200. he makes a great folder! I know that is more than what you are asking. But, there custom makers that you can get a nice fixed blade for what you are looking for.

Just check the Makers for sale section. I have picked up several knives there and most were under $150.00. I think they would sell much higher if placed elsewhere but our forum knife makers seem to sell at a great price to us here.

I would recommend Wayne Hendrix. Do a search for his knives and either contact him directly or find a Dealer with some of them. His models without an added Guard are in your price range.

Also, George (as posted above) makes a great blade. If he has any in the $150 range then they are worth it.

I'm sure you have already thought of this but in that price range you can also afford many many different Production knives of superior quality.

Enjoy the search.

LOTS of excellent knifemakers on Knifemakers For Sale forum here at BF.
i second the Eddie White recommendation, but i have bought excellent knives from other makers too in this price range.

A ton of great makers here. Check out the knife makers for sale thread. Many fixed blades are under $150.

I love my GL Drew $65 special.

I appreciate what AG is saying, that spending more can result in a better product. But...

I've been thrilled with the quality of nearly every knife purchased through the For Sale By Maker forum section, and I'm almost always shopping in the $150 or less price range. Here are two recent examples in your price range that I was especially pleased with:

My point, if I were in the market for a $150 custom, I'd be hawk-eying the For Sale By Maker section until something caught my eye. You gotta be watching, and you gotta be ready to jump.

dean hazuka of montana americana makes WORKS of ART for 150 or less! i have two of his knives and they are beautiful. i've personally met the guy and he is nothing short of a class act! he has a web site which is currently being renovated, but you can still contact him through montanaamericana.com. all knives are hand forged and handmade. the sheaths are made by his wife. check him out, you will not be disappointed.

Check out landiknives.com. He has a great take on a drop point general purpose knife. His first run was all 1095 (I have the #1 MPM) but he's making them in various steels now and he's offering G-10 along with Micarta. I think a MPX (largest knife he currntly makes, I believe blade is 6") with kydex will run you around $135. Good luck.

:thumbup:Thanks to everyone for all the helpful responces.I'm very grateful.
I had no idea there where so many customs in my price range.
