I have a friend who acid etched his mark on the butt of his knives. He uses the Chartpak "Peel and Stick" letter sets to get the old English letters A and G ( Agee). He has been getting them from Island Blue for years, but they stopped carrying them. I can't seem to find them anywhere either. Anyone have a source?

What he really would prefer is getting several sheets of adhesive backed vinyl laser cut with those two letters in 1/4", 3/16", and 1/8". Any of you folks have someone who does this or know of a good source for custom laser cut sheets? I am going to check a few local places today, but thought the vast amount of contacts available here would be a good idea.

I get mine done at the local mall at those booths, relatively cheap and they use nice quality materials (Oracal). I've never thought of using them like this, good idea.

Yep ,any local sign shop. The one in my town has an old guy that used to hand paint signs.Everybody wants vinyl now.

I emailed my cousin's husband the other day about this very thing. He can't go that small, but I agree, it seems like it would work well. I'll be following this to see if someone has any ideas.

Yes, the small size and the complex shape of Old English letters is where the problem lies. I got "no" replies from several folks already. He has been using the rub on letters, actually. I just heard back from chartpak, and they have discontinued them ( which I already knew). They did say that they could send the request to their layout person who could possibly do it. It would be a 100 sheet minimum. Probably ten lifetimes of lettering, but it still could be affordable. I'll keep you posted.

Not for nothin, but this would be a good place to use the photoresist film I use for etching these days. It works well with acid etch and small resolution holds up.
I know that isn't an answer to your question Stacy, just discovering this stuff is highly capable lately. I have been doing a lot of etching on the devices I am working on for another industry, and almost any design I can print, I can etch.

Cheers,
Eric
