Anyone doing this? I'm not talking about 5,000 dollar custom swiss army knives which I know are out there but are only meant to sit as a showpiece. I'm talking about a leatherman type multi-tool designed for use by someone who wants significantly better quality than what a 50 dollar gerber or a 100 dollar leatherman can be. I think it's a valid idea and there's probably a market for it. I see more people carrying multi-tools than fixed blade knives. If a solid multi-tool can be made with strong pivots, steel that's better than recycled bumpers from China, and plug and go tools, tight tolerances, good grinds, with a sturdy sheath at a price of about 3 or 400 bucks, I'd be in. I think it's a completely untapped market and very well could make a maker stand out from others.

What do you guys think? Doable?

I think what most people use multi tools for puts a lot of downward pressure on the price. For me it's what I grab because the right tool isn't there. That doesn't make me want to put real money into one. Plus all those little pieces means a high fixed cost.

The one piece multi tools on the others hand seem to be taking off a little bit. Theres one I want that isn't out yet, but the Boker Access looks like a nice minimalist example. They're basically something to pry with so you aren't tempted to use a knife. Many have a bunch of other gimmicks too.

There may be some demand on re-blading one with a decent blade, but producing your own pliers mechanism from scratch will be costly
