Custom makers that make small fixed blades for under 100 bucks?

Gene ingram's work is superb!!

Also check out Matt Shade & Jason Cutter both members of this forum. Jason has a section dedicated to small knives on his site. Another good maker of small knives is Arno Bernard a south African maker.

Good luck Mitch

Beat me to it. Anza knives are handmade, and standard models are priced starting at $18. I had Anza create a true custom knife, built with my design ideas and material choices, under $100.

Allen Blade has handmade knives in the $50 range. You can read about his past business 'problems', but he no longer accepts deposits so you can't lose anything by ordering a knife. In fact, my name's on the list - nothing to lose.

Kelgin Knives will make a true custom knife with your own design and specs, starting at $150.

Best Wishes,
Bob

Don't forget Al Alexander (aka aablades here in the BFC), I got a nice little necker made out of D2 at a reasonnable $110 ... check it out:

What do I want? This is kinda like describing your perfect woman. :D

I guess my "ideal" knife would be something similar to the following specs:

A steel that's not too fancy (expensive), like AUS-8 or 440C, something reasonably hard and stainless, from someone who knows their heat treatment. This would be a purely defensive knife, as I have no interest in whittling or slicing tomatoes.
G-10, Micarta, those are nice, but I don't really need those either, paracord wrapped handle would do fine. Simplicity is beauty in my view.

OK, basically this thing would have a symmetrical handle, so that it I can use it in reverse grip, edge in, (Pikal) just as comfortably as with fencing grip.
By symmetry, I mean something like this:

http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SE127

I would want a small integral handguard, and as those two knives demonstrate, the handle would be slightly tapered on both ends. Handle length, well, I have pretty large hands, so probably 4-4.5 inches or so for handle length.

The blade portion would be 3 - 3.5 inches, chisel ground.

For the blade shape, I would like a tanto, a really aggressive, geometric, non-traditional tanto shape. Kinda like these two:

http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=SOG68A

..but, like I said, unlike that Benchmade or the SOG, chisel ground.

No serrations needed.

The stock would be pretty thick, maybe 5 mm or so. Weight would not be an issue, as I am not interested in neck carry. Furthermore, weight could be shaved off with perforations in the handle, kinda like with this knife:

How would I carry this ugly-yet-hopefully-functional thing?

Well, I never wear a belt, and I wear shorts a lot. So, a Kydex rig with a large stainless steel clip that can go inside the waistband or inside a bellyband gun holster.

I am sure I forgot something, so please ask.

Thanks. :)

P.S. that little diver knife has almost exactly what I am looking for in terms of handle shape:

The handguard can be just a tad smaller though.

I don't post much, but I have to break the silence for Chax Knives. Awesome service, awesome knives. Thanks Chase.
