I have always liked the utilitarian nature of Opinel folders but thought the handles looked too boxy and their finish was not luxurious enough. Over the past few years I took up a hobby of modifying Opinel handles, more like a vintage gunstock. These have been hand reshaped, sanded, stained (mostly walnut) and finished with up to 10 layers of Birchwood Casey Tru-Oil.
